|
| So I'm having idling problems with my 2.8. Every time I pull to a stop light where I'm sitting for longer than about 15 seconds my car dies. It starts up no problem and won't do it as much if I put the car in neutral when I come to stop lights. Any idea what this is? |

Your IAC is not working correctly, could just be carbon build up on the IAC pintle. or the IAC motor is worn out and not moving fast enough. _________________ 88 Camaro IrocZ Convertible 5.0 TPI...

IAC = Idle Air Controller
It lets some air into your engine while the throttle is closed to allow it to idle. After all, no air means no running, which is probably what is stalling your car out.
Is the Check Engine light on ever?
By chance is your speedometer broken? I think the ECU may have trouble idling at a stop if the speedo input is not working. Might be totally off base on this... _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56

THE IAC is screwed into the side of your throttle body. It should have a 4 wires and a big square plug in the end. not sure the wrench size needed to removed it. it is pretty large. should come out easily. once removed the cone shaped piece will be coated in soot. clean with carb cleaner and clean the opening in the throttle body as well. press straight down on the cone shaped piece until it retract some. reinstall cleaned IAC and reconnect all wiring removed for access. turn ignition on to run but do not start car yet. leave on for several seconds and turn off. this should reset the IAC. then start car and check for proper idle.
hope this helps _________________ 88 Camaro IrocZ Convertible 5.0 TPI...

What code? Or do you mean it comes on when the engine stalls, then goes out immediately upon restarting? |
