1987 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z

Back in 1991 - 1995 the hangout for fast street cars on the northend was Hurpheys burger stand in Everette. At midnight the fast cars would show up, the king of the street back then was a 59 Corvette. The guy never said what it ran, actually, he never said much at all. Every once in awhile someone would show up, talking shizzle and chalenge the surfer dude with the Corvette. They would wait it out, when everyone left they would go duke it out. The next weekend The Corvette would show up and the challenger wouldnt. Dude would never say how it went down, just that the Corvette won.

The Corvette owner has been hanging out on Saturday nights at Clearview lately. Sticks and I stopped by tonight and chatted with the guy. I had my video camera with and at first didnt record anything. After 15 minutes I clicked it on and kept it pointed at the ground while the guy told the history of the car / races. For the guys who have been around street racing in the northend, you know the car and the guy. It was awsome to listen to him talk about the fast cars around the puget sound and how street racing evolved.

BTW, Sticks pointed out his crappy tires and said he obviously doesnt street race any longer. He said that the Corvette is now a street car. He would only say that it runs 10's now. Back in the day the rumor was that it ran low 9's with a 400CID. It still has the 6 / 71 B&M blower and no hood.

I took about a 1/2 hour of video, killed the battery and cant find the charger. Before I spend the time editing and up loading, is anyone interested in listening to the stories / seeing the car?

Sounds like an interesting story would be there. Think you could transcribe it with some software???

I fricken love hearing old car stories.

I was just about to ask if this was this car. Saw this on my way out of Everett last weekend;

Unknown solid axle, funky (almost 4thgen looking?) custom double a-arm setup in the front with very low offset stealies, sidepipes and custom welded headers and unknown motor. Was sitting outside harbor freight. Laughing

Close but no cigar. The guys car is a black hard top, tubbed out, no hood and has a blower on top of a 350. Looks something like this -

Dont get me wrong, the car is in good condition for it's age, but it is nowhere near show quality. The paint is faided, there are stress cracks in the body, the interior is original except for the harness, well worn etc. It is still a cool ride though, especially considering it's local history.

Yep, Sticks forgot his shoes.

I have a 20+ minute video of a BS session with the owner of the car. I didnt tell him I was recording so the camera is pointed at the ground / Trace's size 17 bare feet. If your interested in the history of local street racing, it will be worth listnening to. I am waiting for it to load up to youtube.

Well it ran what it looks like it should have run, mid 9's. Atleast it did back in the early 90's. He said it runs low 10's now. I didnt catch it on tape but he said it would pull still pull the front tires on the street.
It now has a 350, used to have a 400. He is only running 6lbs of boost and is more concerned with living on modern fuel then Kicking ass on the streets.

My brother asked him for a race, then told him he better change his tires Shocked

I'd be more concerned about the licking thing.

That GN was the slowest GN that night. When the vid first starts I tried to catch the street driven 9.80 GNX leaving. You can hear it, but due to my crappy filming skills, cant see it.

Licking ass, lol. Need to change that, being a horrible speller is really starting to suck Very Happy

The GNX that was parked next to the Corvette was the one given to the current owner by a guy he knew for a couple of weeks. I posted the details last year.

If you guys get a chance, stop by Cleairview on Saturdy night around 5:00PM. It's hit and miss, but their are alot of cool cars that show up and much cooler stories.

I dont know if I would associate "prancing around" with a guy that is 6'7" tall and 360 pounds +....

OK, like I said, this is a boring video. I would skip ahead to to about the 4:30 mark. The guy started feeling comfy and talked about his experiences on the street in Everett.

On the way back to my place a guy with a red S2000 decided it would be a good idea to put the loud GTO in it's place. Man, it was ugly. The guy actually tried it again going around a large sweeper ( next to the new high school), I had the camera running but couldnt swing arounf fast enough to keep him in the view finder. My brother caled me a couple minutes later and said the same balled headed 30 something had tracked him down while leaving my neighborhood, only this time he was driving a new BMW 3 series. He said it was even uglier for the guy.
