So I spun a rod "bearing" on my mower engine. Too bad they don't use bearings. Has anyone successfully honed their rod big ends? I'm thinking of trying and then knocking the metal off the crank with a little hand polishing. It's just a mower, right? If I spent half the time I put into my mower into my cars....

Never tried it.. but you could sand a bit off the rod cap ends.. then try honing it round again.. If you're careful it might work. They only rev to 3600 anyway!

That's what I was thinking. And I'm going to leave the gear driven governor out. It's cramping my style. Other than the spun bearing it looks good in there. Sure wish I could put a VW engine in it. Lol. This whole vertical shaft thing is a little lame.

Well that worked out. Just finished mowing the yard. Ended up using a small bar hone to clean up the rod. I guess what really made the difference is the rod is aluminum and the crank is cast iron. Used some sand paper to clean up the crank. No rod knock and all is well. The mower lives on!
