Hey guys! Just ordered the KYB gas adjust shocks/struts and looking for springs. I know I want to go lower so I'm looking at the eibach sportline and pro kit. Sportlines are about $40 bucks cheaper from tire rack but wondering if its worth it to spend some extra money on the prokit. From pics I've seen I like the stance the sportlines give. What do you guys think and what would you go with? |

Sportline - Much lower but terrible spring rates.
ProKit - Very good spring rates and handling, slight lowering.
If it was me I'd go ProKit. _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56

The rate on the Sportlines is kinda bad. They were designed as a soft-but-low deal and it doesn't really pan out.
That said, Mike runs them so he would be a better judge than I.
I had Pro-Kit springs in the IROC for years. Hard on the kidneys but they handle nice.
Having had the Pro-Kit springs, I would just get some junkyard Z28 or WS6 springs and cut them. That's all I've got on the new car and it's fine for what it is.

So it's not worth it to replace the springs with new ones? |

Lots of people just cut WS6 springs or IROC springs to get what they want. (Me included, although I would like a Ground Control setup) The IROC spring rate was the highest of all thirdgens, especially if you can find a fully kitted out car with leather, Bose, power everything, etc. When you cut the springs to the height you want, the rate goes even higher.
You could also search TGO and get the Moog part numbers for new springs and do that. I think it comes out to around $120 for all 4 springs on there, and then trim to get what you want. You get the benefit of brand new springs in a higher rate than GM ever used to cut on and make even higher. It'll be a kidney-puncher, though.
One thing to keep in mind is that those KYBs will be valved wrong for a really stiff or really low setup, and they will ride poor and die quickly. In your situation, I'd probably either go ProKit or do what Aaron suggested and cut some factory higher rate springs to get to your preferred height. If cost is a factor you know what you need to do. _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56

What I meant was that IMO it is not worth spending $250+ on an Eibach kit, especially on a high-school bomber.
I would not run the factory veesix Sport Coupe springs. With the V8 on them they will be sacked out in front, and they are very soft, so you will end up with a squishy ride and a lot of forward rake.
I would also recommend looking at a good set of sway bars. Your car probably has a very small front bar and no rear bar at all. A set of WS6 bars can be had fairly cheap and will do wonders for your cornering ability. |

Ahhhh I'm one step ahead of ya there. Twilightoptics sold me his iroc bars some time ago. I know I at least need V8 springs my only concern is what good are 20+ year old springs vs buying new springs? Whether its the eibach kit or not. If the eibachs aren't worth it I'd still like to replace them with new springs, just don't know what some good options are.
And with my kyb's could I run the moog springs cut to lower the car an inch safely? I really don't want to spend the money on these shocks/struts for them to blow out shortly down the road. |

Moog 5662 (5664 if you want the stiffest) for fronts. $44/pair on RockAuto.
Moog 5665 for rears. $48/pair on RockAuto.
The 5662s are IROC rate. _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56

I have never had an issue running junkyard springs. I have Paul's old cut springs on my car currently.
No shock is going to last that long on a lowered car. Just run them. What is a set of KYBs on a thirdgen? Less than a hundred bucks? |

Sportlines are progressive and awesome. With some big sway bars the ride is decent and handling excellent. For your average modder using kyb you can't go wrong with sportlines.
Pro kit might make your ride higher than it is on old worn springs now _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

Ordered the moog springs last night. Might cut them with some help, I've never done it or know if I have the right tool to cut it with. |

Angle grinder with thin cutting disk. Try to modulate your speed to avoid creating excessive heat. I quench them in water when I'm done. Heat = temper problems. |

No water quenching. The rapid cooling changes the spring and makes it more brittle.
A good cutoff wheel won't generate enough heat to cause an issue. I cut half through then go to the other spring for half. No more than 3/4 coil front to start.
Enjoy your new stiff ride. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

I may just go stock ride height with the moogs I just ordered and see how I like it. RSFreak if you don't want them ill take those springs and cut them and see what ride set up I like more. |
