Yesterday, I was driving along and my speakers started cutting out. Today, they did the same thing, except now I get no sound out of the components whatsoever.
I checked the connections on all the component speakers, and they are fine, as well as the connections on the back of the deck.
The sub still works fine. Would this be a problem with the internal amplifier in the deck, or should I be hunting for a bad wire?
Any help is appreciated.

Run new wire just along the top of the interior from the deck to a speaker... if you get sound, it's bad wiring. If no sound it's the speaker or deck.
So It's best to try it with a speaker you know is good that isn't in the car. You could even hook the subwoofer up to it to see if sound comes out. |

Did that and no sound from any of the speaker wires on the back of the deck.
Time for a new head unit I guess. _________________ 1990 Ford Mustang 5.0L LX - parked for the winter

It's some extra work, but you should run new 16gauge speaker wire to the speakers from your new deck. Sound quality may improve, and it's very possible that there is a short on the wiring to your speakers now, that is grounding the signal from the deck.
When the signal grounds, or you cross the speaker wires with power coming to them... you can fry the output board on the deck. (Ask me how I found this out )
Thus new wire eliminates that. Leave the old stuff in there though, no need to run through the snaps/clips that hold it down. Just run new wire from the deck along the rocker panels. |
