Got heads out. Need to do some porting. Never done it. Dos and donts? Got tank dropped. Got some koni rears. New moog springs and my posi disc 99 rear, so after I get all the old undercoating off and redo, the rear will be done. Anywhere I can get a access door locally so I can fix hackjob where someine cut for fuel pymp. Also what is heaterhose modbfor rear springs and whats a normal amount to cut springs? |

What's wrong with undercoating? We salt in Washington now.

Just weld the car back up wherever they cut the hole, then replace the pickup unit and lines where they cut them. Fuel pump job only takes a couple of hours to do correctly out the bottom. To this day I have never figured out why people waste time going through the top.

Heater hose is only used if you've lost the factory isolators, and only in the front. I have a set of already cut Z28 springs with good isolators for sale if you want them. |

Rears should have rubber isolators not the front. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

When Aaron and I did the front springs on my Berlinetta, they had isolators on them. _________________ '86 Trans Am - 5.0L TPI - LT1 cam - 700R4 - WS6

I would rathet weld, especially beings I wont have a pump in tank, but I lack the skill, and I cant move it to take it somewhere. I realky want it sealled though. I am respraying the undercoating but someone sprayed it all over and way to thick and it loiks like poo poo. I also need to go to jy and get fuel lunes frim a carbed car. |

Rears have hard plastic isolators that are about an inch thick. Fronts have rubber isolators that are often replaced with heater hose because they get torn/lost/whatever. |

^that. Unless you're talking about a max effort race engine that's going to be spinning high rpm more than cruising around or street driving, porting isn't going to give you any gains that make it worth doing. |

Not worth it.
Best case scenario if you know what you're doing you might improve the HP of a street engine by a few %. Worst case you'll lose HP and torque over every RPM of your rev range by not knowing what you're doing and messing something up.
I guarantee that if you built the two engines exactly the same with amateur ported heads vs untouched castings you would feel no difference between the two. It's not worth the time, money or effort.
If you want to do it, then do it, but don't expect anyone to tell you it's worth doing for your purposes. There's a reason the big head porters get paid big bucks to do a set of heads. They wouldn't get paid that much if any guy could pick up a Dremel and match the gains they see. If you think it'll be fun, go ahead and try it out but don't expect a miracle. _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56

If not wirth it , then not doung. I guess I was reading to much on tgo. They be talking about 30 or more added hp. Alsi. To surface , standard valve grind and assemble, the shopbis saying 309. That average. I already spent 126 for tests and dissasenble |
