Any displacement can make power. Bear in mind that Al's 383 and Derrick's 305 are within five horses of each other.

Far be it from me to say this, but this build is going too slowly. Razz

And my 346 made even more. Displacement isn't everything. It's all about the combo and the tune.

Too slowly indeed. Laughing This is a six-pack build. Down the hatch By the time you finish the six-pack it should be done. Very Happy

And I'm a little conservative on the fuel pressure for now - only 18psi. If I read the calculations right, I might get 300 hp if I bumped it to 22-24 psi, saving that for a different tranny, though...

Not a matter of saving money. You don't have a roller block. Laughing

Sell it and buy something that matches your heads and intake better.

Why would increasing fuel pressure give you more power, unless you're running incredibly lean now?

I think Al has much more conservative cam in his 383, probably takes alot less RPM to get moving too.

I couldn't get any replies to e-mails or phone calls from the builder as to what the internals are. As far as I know, it's all stock Vortec 350 except for the crank, rods and pistons (which he did tell me were Scat and Speed Pro).

What's the lobe separation angle?

It could be relatively mild, or it could be incredibly lopey. Depends on your LSA and Compression Ratio/Heads/Intake

I was gonna use a performer rpm intake. I had a guy rebuild me a qjet that he set up like the old school ones edlebrock used to make that he said shoukd work well

Call Delta or just go down there. They should be able to give you the cam card with the info off your receipt. Hell, they had a card for mine and the only info I had was the shop who built the motor and the approximate date. Laughing

I guess from what I have been reading he is setting it up lije the qjets thay edlebrock did. From what I have read they were supposed to be decent performance carns. So hopefully it will be. It will be less then 100 bucks whixh inclufes the carb so it is still a decent deal.
