At that point, Id check thermostat operation. start it cold, let it heat up while feeling both hoses, the bottom hose will heat up first, if you have a 160 stat, the upper hose will start heating up when the T stat opens at 160-170ish. you can tell if its stuck closed if that upper hose stays cool for too long.
BTW slow down while typing, its really hard to understand with the mis-spelling. lol |

I dont know if its actually blown. Compression test checked fine . No loss of performance tnat I can yell. No smoke. Oil fine. But I do frothy coolent. So seems like some type of gasses are getykng in. so maybe cravk in head or gaskets?? And as fat as thermostat,.not running one at thr momrnt and same issues |

Pressure test the cooling system, if it bleeds off and doesnt leak on the ground youll be looking for a cracked head or bad head gasket. You can probably rent the tool at auto zone. |

Thats what I will do. Maybe I can just adapt a radiator cap to work . then just use my air compressor? |

You need to be able to pump it up and gauge the pressure, then see how long it takes to bleed off. Would probably much easier to just get the pressure checker. |

First, get a known good radiator cap and put a thermostat in there.
I had a blown headgasket on my truck that did not leak coolant into the combustion chambers (and passed a pressure test), however it did overpressurize the cooling system and force coolant out into the overflow until there wasn't enough coolant in the system to keep the engine cool. Is this what is happening to you? Mine was detectable by one of those exhaust gas in the coolant detector kits. _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56

Gabe. yes. My overflow tank swelled up like a ballon on several ocasions. so if that the problem.I guess I shall be forced to do my head swap sooner then later. That and the fact.my wife is pregnant with number 4. I will never have a free moment to my self again. so if anybody has a cherry picker I could borrow for a few Weeks that would be awesome. |

Don't need a hoist for a head swap.
If you want to confirm a bad headgasket, go ahead and rent the exhaust gas tester for free from O'reilly Auotparts. You do have to buy the fluid to test with but it's only like $8 or something.
Congratulations on the 4th kid, you're gonna be a busy guy soon. _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56

Ford FE needs hoist for head or intake work. That and just about any diesel engine.

Should have qualified my statement... You don't need a hoist for head work on a SBC.
Corollary: I betcha I could get an FE intake or head out without a hoist... _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56

Never used a hoist for doing any head work. Even big block chevy which has bigger heads then anything cept a hemi.
If the radiator pressurizes right away when the motor is cold, you have a head gasket problem. That in itself will cause the motor to overheat. |

Ill pressue test it first when cold then? And then no reason to test exhaust gas? |

Pressure testing isn't going to show you a combustion into cooling system only leak. You need to put a gauge on it, and run the engine. If it goes higher than the pressure cap rating in a matter of minutes, head gasket/cracked head/block. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |
