Spent a lot of time on Dmax forums trying to understand why the LB7 injectors go bad. Most shops and do it yourselfers recommend replacing all of the lines and all injectors at the same time. The lines can be cleaned but from pictures I have seen they still have a lot of oxidation in them. Seems that the problem is caused by poor filtering.

Picked up the wrecked GTO Saturday in Ellensburg. Do to driving 70 -75 on the way over the DIC showed 16 MPG. Loaded the almost 4K pound GTO on the trailer and towed it back at 60 - 65. Filled the truck up after dropping off the car and the DIC claimed 18MPG, hand calculated was 16.89 or so. The trailer weighs about 3000 pounds as it is really set up to haul equipment. The truck actually got better fuel economy with a heavier load but lower RPM's / speed on the way back. The DIC went from 17.?? on the way back. Total distance was 282 miles.

That's normal for a small turbodiesel in my experience. Working the engine against a load helps spool the turbo and increase efficiency.

Dad's cummins has a severe mpg drop when you cross 70mph. Keep it under that it pulls mid 17s loaded or not. Over that is more like 13.

Diesel, small power band, keep in torque zone makes for better mileage.

Diesel engines are designed to be worked. Unloaded they're a paperweight.

Saddest thing.. I could get better mileage towing my jeep on an equipment trailer with a 4 door, 4x4 dodge pickup then I could just by driving it. Laughing

Looks like Corvette could take the race. One of the Ecoboost cars is out from mechanical failure of some kind. Within a few laps the other went to the garage for some reason but is now back in the race. The last is still racing but far too behind to matter.

First race for Ecoboost is over. Corvette won 1,2,3. Ecoboost was looking really good and it all went downhill the last couple hours. At the end of the race one of three cars was still on the track. The other two were in the garage.

They have some things needing sort out and it be fun to watch how it does the rest of the year.

-The engine blew in the 01 car, after it lost time due to suspension problems.
-The floor fell out of the 02 car.
-The transmission blew up in the 60 car and they lost three hours.
-Chevy swept the event.

To be fair there was plenty of trouble to go around this year for everyone, and as long as I'm not the one paying for it I would much rather see a novel engineering idea fail than see the same boring safe ideas succeed.

Yea, been away from the forums for awhile. Still satisfied with my 03 Duramax though. It still feels like it's something different on the road, like a really expensive pair of shoes. Yea, they have a lot of wear and tear but are holding up well. Fuel economy plays a big part when towing. The comfort of knowing that this will continue for a couple of hundred thousand miles just makes it better. I don't regret buying my truck back in 2005.

Hope your ECO boost does the same.

Well, I guess the rear defrost does work. It's just a lousy defrost but not broken.

Reason I know this is because I had to leave the truck at the dealer because snow was blowing out all the vents inside the cab. I kid you not! Sucked snow in from outside and blew it on me for whole 30 minutes I drove to work. It's a more serious problem then it sounds because the moisture in the air hits the cold front windshield and forms ice on the inside of the window. I had to keep rubbing a hole in the ice to see where I was driving. Dealer didn't know what actually caused it but changed out the air blend actuator for good measure. If we're lucky that was the same actuator that I hear sticking occasionally.

I don't think I have to worry about the snow issue again until next winter. This winter is about to wind down and I doubt we'll get the light fluffy snow we've gotten the last couple months.

Just rolled past 36K miles. Had one instance of the misfire due to water in intercooler. No codes, kept running, and has not happened again. No other issues other than that.

Although it did spark my interest in buying a huge intercooler for future mods. Thinking pretty hard about a Full Race upgrade package this spring. They just hit 600 RWHP on stock fuel system and low boost with a turbo upgrade. Probably not willing to spend that much money but a tune and downpipe might be in order.

Also looking at tires some time this year. There is plenty of tread left for normal use but not as much as I would like to see for heavier snow storms. Guarantee I'm going bigger than stock and a small lift.

Just ordered a custom tune from Leading Edge Tuning on a SCT X4. It will add more than 100 HP with the push of a button. Other mods will be coming for more power. Thumbs up

Loaded the base SCT 87 octane tune. It is definitely a noticeable change, especially in the mid-range. I guess the way to describe it is pretend you did a gear swap on your Camaro from the 2-series gear to 3.42. That's pretty much the change we're talking about.

Sending off info today to get the custom tune. Not loading anything hotter until I change spark plugs.

Changed spark plugs and loaded the LET 91 Performance tune. Way different than SCT. Smoother shifts and easier on tires, but deceptively quick. The truck is constantly giving feedback it wants to take off and run. Not a winter road friendly tune. I put the SCT 87 tune back in for now until roads improve since it gives more leeway before downshifting.

Turbos are a cool thing. Touch of a button and have 100 more Hp. Very Happy

Ecoboost won 24 hours at Daytona. Kind of makes a difference when the floor doesn't fall out of the car like last year.
