Glad I can help.
I was being mostly factitious about the new pickup Cummins engines. They have many more issues than the old CTDs, but still nothing compared to what Ford's customers have been drug through.
I am very curious to see where Nissan comes in on price. Diesel trucks have really spiked in price. If they can undercut Ford they will do a lot better than if they just build another 60K truck that's too big to use. |

Nissan originally had a deal with Dodge to rebadge the ram trucks as Titans. This was cancelled when Dodge took the bailout. Evidently they went ahead and worked something out with cummins instead. I actually like the Titan, but find the fuel mileage sucks compared to an american V/8.. It's just about as bad as my 6 banger jeep! |

So the Titan has same economy issue as the Tundra then? |

Wow, that's total sh**. There's really no excuse for that.
I wasn't aware that they still made a 5-speed version.
Hell, I wasn't aware that there was any truck still available in a manual.

Hard to believe the american trucks are the mileage kings now. I see tundra is almost identical to the titan. |

Yeah, I always hear Tundra guys complaining about their mileage.
I never see anyone working out of a Titan, so I had no idea they were that bad as well. |

About a month ago I found "no ethanol" premium fuel and have noticed my Ecoboost picked up 1 mpg average and a little horsepower by the feel of things. Now it gets a bit over 18 mpg in mixed city/highway daily commute. Unfortunately the fuel costs $4 per gallon so it's not worth it. But it runs pretty good on that stuff! |

Go the other way and convert to E85, Jon. You're in the land of corn after all. |

On our yellowstone trip this year we found that most of the regular gas there was 85 octane non ethanol. Jeep ran perfect on it and got the best mileage it ever got.. 85 worked fine with that extreme elevation too. I was surprised at how much smoother it idled on non ethanol. They had E10 there too and using it went back to crap. |

Comments to annoy Jon:
If you want to make endurance claims you should probably wait until they actually do more than one lap...
We'll talk next January when they finish the 24 at Daytona, or next fall when they finish the Rolex season and you can tell me about how the engine in that car is the same as the engine in your truck because both have six pistons, turbos, and EcoBoost stickers on the side.
Meanwhile I'll be sitting here waiting for that EcoBoost sticker you were going to send me. I'll glue it on my car and then I'll be an EcoBoost too because I have six pistons and turbos and a sticker!!!
Serious comments for seriousness:
Top speed runs on an oval are a silly test for an engine. It is a test of aerodynamics and chassis stability more than anything else. The engine is merely displacing air at that speed.
Turbocharged engines can be made to hold up to "real" racing. Just ask Cosworth, Audi, Subaru, or any of a number of companies who are not Ford.
That said I'm glad to see them try this, and not just continue to put EcoBoost stickers on their Nascar cars like jackasses. |

Nope, wrong.... 60% to 70% of stock engine carries over into the race engine, including stock block, stock heads, and valve train.
According to Roush Yates Engines, "Ford knew it needed a new engine for sports car racing, and the EcoBoost was a better choice than modifying the 5.0-liter Coyote V8." |

Stock block, yes, but ported heads, entirely new rotating assembly, fuel system, intake system, ect. I appreciate the fact that they are trying to utilize some stock parts in this publicity stunt, but their "70%" statement is nonsense.
The Coyote would be a better race engine. Ford runs a 5.0L based on the modular engine in their current Touring cars, so all this acting like the Coyote is some new scary thing is also nonsense.
The EcoBoost engine will sell more F-150s, so that's what they will build. This little stunt will either succeed or fail, but either way I'll enjoy the result.
Haven't seen my sticker in the mail yet. |

I didn't give you the link just to keep you busy longer.
Your argument is falling apart around you. Complaining about ported stock heads now? Hell, it's amazing the heads are even OEM castings in the first place!
I actually was shopping for Ecoboost badges today but they want like $40. That's too much for something you'll throw in the trash. |

Not really. The current 5.0 Cammer engines that this EcoBoost is replacing has heads off of the Ford GT.
I'm still not sure how they expect the "70%" number to fly, considering they are openly admitting that the only stock parts are the block and the initial head casting.

Oh I'd totally glue it on my car just to prove you wrong. But yeah, I just looked on eBay and the markup on those things is ridiculous. |

22,000 miles and still going. Have had some other issues.
* Sun Visor was replaced because the mirror cover sagged after first use.
* Gasket replaced around door number pad. Gasket was not installed correctly at factory and pieces were falling out.
* HVAC blend door actuator hangs up occasionally. Haven't had anything done about it yet.
* Rear window defrost never worked from day one. Not going to do anything about it. I'd rather have a window with good factory seal than a leaker with working defrost. |
