so since i got my car back from ABC transmission i noticed that at idle the afr doesn't like to be at 14.7 anymore it sits at about 12.8-13.5 and there is also a sound thats not a tick but not a knock its like inbetween, i checked for exhaust leaks and there is none, and it doesnt sound like the click of a loose rocker arm. is there anything in the tranny that could cause this or could it be something more internal, also listening to the exhaust at the tail pipe it steady and every 4 seconds or so it has a big puff come out, im not sure if thats how its supposed to be cause i only have resonators or what but it doesnt seem normal

Loose flex plate bolts or cracked flexplate will make that kind of noise. Does the noise change when its shifted between drive and neutral?

But a bad flex plate won't make it run rich. Razz

Did they drop the exhaust to R&R the trans?

Who says there's only one problem? Oh and what will happen if the knock sensor picks up this noise? hmm?

turns out they moved the spark plug wire for cylinder 8....the wire was super melted and the noise was the wire arching to the header....threw on a temporary wire and ordered a new set, im suprised it didnt throw a code...

what are the best wire looms to use? i got the MSD Street Fire 5570's same ones i have now

Haha thats what I wss going to suggest looking at. My 85 hsd the driverside wires under the header. Same issue wuth Msd wires after visiting the transmission shop. Msd wiees are junk anyway they get hard way too fast.

You've gotta slow down on that phone keyboard, Paul. Razz

FWIW I use Taylor wires and I like the Taylor 42700 looms.

I have run that setup on many cars and have never had an issue.

Depends on the engine and the headers. On an SBC with shorties I would go up.

From the top down through the headers in pairs.

AKA 1/3 and 5/7 together.

You must have Flowtech or Edelbrock headers then. Wink

If you loom six and eight together as Paul suggested and then run them up behind that annoying crossover primary tube you should be fine.

BTW, in the future you should buy universal plug wires so you can get the lengths correct.

I run my wires under the headers. I use zip ties to keep them tight to the block. Haven't had an issue.
