So I bought an S10. A '92 2.8/5speed. It's got a few quirks here and there from past.... Spanish owners.

When I got the truck the hot/cold temp slider was MIA but the defrost/heat/vent slider was there and functioned, along with the fan slider. I found an entire HVAC control head at picknpull and swapped that out. The problem I'm having is that when I slide the temp to "Hot" I get hardly any air out of whatever vent I've got it pointed. I can hear the fan blowing it's little heart out, just don't feel very much air and it's definitely not hot. When I bump the slider down to cold, voila the vents erupt with air (obviously cold outside stuff). This happened with both HVAC controls.

I'm thinking there is some blend door that closes over the heater core on this rig that's not opening up? Anyone come across this before? I haven't yet poked my head under the passenger side dash to see if there is something horrendously visible yet.

If the blend door was stuck it would still be blowing cold.

I would bet on the heater core being clogged with crap.

If it's a mechanical (non-AC) truck the blend door lever should be on the bottom of the HVAC box, and can be moved by hand.

On my '88 S10 the cable leading to the blend door was stuck or broken in the middle holding the door slightly open and causing poor heater performance to say the least. I think this is a common issue of those trucks. As a temp fix I got under the passenger side of the dash, removed the cable and closed the door manually, since I wasn't ready for the job of swapping the cable. Heat worked amazing after that.

No lever on the bottom of this box. There is a sprung pivot on the driver side of the box next to a vacuum pod? But that's the only thing I see down there. However, when I was sliding the heat selector back and forth the cable popped off so I'll put it back in tomorrow.

Vacuum pod means you don't have a mechanical control like the older trucks. Does it (or did it ever Laughing) have AC?

BTW, congrats on copycatting me. Razz I may have been the second one to own a silver Bimmer but I was the first to buy an S10 that had been ruined by Mexicans. Laughing

Doh!

That looks more like it was ruined by a white guy installing a V8 than Mexicans. Razz

Except that's kinda how it came. I just made the 2.8 go away after it decided to do what 2.8 motors do best.

You have to admit it is pretty impressive somebody was able to get money for a truck that jacked up. There are a bunch of Mexicans laughing how easy it is to take money from white kids.

Laughing I've already pulled off the altezza tail lights and stupid sound system. If it did have AC then this is one bastardized truck. It's got what looks like an undisturbed ACdelete box and no signs that a compressor was ever bolted to it. It had the twin vertical slider HVAC control (next to the cluster) and no AC controls there along with the independent floor vents. However, it was punched in the front end at one point. The truck is chrysler green but it was originally red(maybe red/grey two tone?) with Taiwanese bumper/grille and junkyard core support (with 4.3/automatic emission tag!). The guy kept trying to tell me it was a 4.3/5speed. Nooooope.

The defrost/vent/heat selector is vacuum controlled but the hold/cold selector has a cable attached to the backside.

I drove the truck from Kingston, through Gig Harbor/Tacoma all the way around and back to Bothell with hardly a heater and the vents stuck open the other night. Paaaaaasssss.

However, it's a pretty fun little beater. Would be great with a little 4.8/5.3 and a t56.

Without serious meat in the back or a ton of sand bags.... no, no it wouldn't.

I'm with stupid

I could readily blow off the tires with 2.73 gears and the little 4bl 3.1. A power motor with that much forward weight is crazy. Laughing

180hp lt1 camed 305 was more than that little thing could handle with an auto. Can't imagine a std trans.

Guy I worked with stuffed a 383 with a th350 behind it. He eventually tubbed, caged, and 4 linked it because he said it was undrivable, and wouldn't get out of the driveway if it was even a touch damp.

You'd blow the tires off of a golfcart. There's a picture of a mountain man next to the definition of 'jackrabbit starts' in the dictionary. Laughing

I think a reliable 4.8 would be a great engine for it. It's not difficult to operate a clutch...
