Bah. All these GM engines called the "LT" and then they put "LT" stickers on the back of all their cars. What the hell is it about those letters? Laughing

Bashy Bashy Go Gm.... lets make a different motor and call it the lt1

I love the comment about the 90's boat anchors lol 450 hp for a vette seems pretty weak in my opinion but im not a bean counter or a gm employee so my opinion means jack lol

450hp is pretty good for a base version Corvette. It's better than it has ever had before...

450 is pretty high for entry level. I believe they are currently 405

Especially considering the price. 50K will barely get you a diesel truck anymore, much less a near-supercar. I'll be the first to agree that new car price inflation has gotten way out of hand, but still.

The inflation is ridiculous, my reasoning for the lame HP comment is with a new motor, and another year of engineering under their belt they only netted 45 HP.... It seems that the new golden toy of gm should have more power, that's just my opinion though

Why top out with the introductory motor when they can just keep adding 5-10hp every year like they always do?

Hey now when I say I have an lt1 swapped third gen I'll sound REALLY cool! Haha. Stupid naming method all along. I could never keep track which ls motor was better than the last. Lol

Ls1 was a pontiac.. It's just option codes, they're recycled all the time. Not sure why gm started using them like they were names.. except maybe that they arent copyrighted so they dont have to pay for them(iroc)

They've been doing that forever, though. Z28 is an entire model based on an RPO. Same deal with all the Vettes that had the 'L88' tag on the cowl. Camaro used to have an 'F41' version with stickers and everything. Laughing

Ian nailed it. I read an article in GMHTP back in the late 90's that stated that GM was already working on LS2 and LS3 varaints just after finishing up the LS1. At the time they didnt call the engines out by this nomenclature but the larger displacement, and rectangular heads were already baking. No reason to offer the highest output from day one. They can milk it for ten years then thump their collective chests when the new one comes out. If you built more than a couple of computers over the last decade you understand the paralel. It just happens in a much shorter time span with computer parts.

http://www.corvetteonline.com/news/the-inside-scoop-why-is-gm-calling-the-new-small-block-an-lt1/

Supposed to explain why they gave it the LT1 code.

Haha it basically says GM will call it whatever they want and they picked LT1 because it has some history.
