What's everyone's opinion on this intake? Why isn't it more popular? How does it compare to the likes of a Stealth Ram or Miniram? From what I've gathered there was a marine version made by either GM of Indmar, does anyone have any info on that? [/b] |

Looks like you got your answer one TGO, dude.
Yours is marine for sure. The coolant passages are dead giveaway to that.
I always assumed the reason no one ran them is because they cost two to three times what an HSR did. |

The TGO thread DBL_TKE started on this has a guy claiming it is shorter than an HSR. That would be cool for me since mine hits the hood so badly on my car!
Too bad I decided not to ever spend more money on my GenI SBC. _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56

Mostly just cost. If the hsr doesn't clear your camaro properly something is up. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

Yeah, my hood is completely different underneath than an IROC/RS hood. It sticks down into the engine bay way further, _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56

Cost aside, how do you figure the HSR is "better?" |

Guess I should post some pics...
Obviously it needs to be painted. A friend found this for me, the guy who had it didn't even know what kind of engine it would work on. So I got it for next to nothing. |

Looks like an LSx TB. You could do a '411 PCM swap at the same time. _________________

The fact that the fuel rail is on it pushes it's value up. Otherwise you have to do custom rails or hack LT1 rails on there.
If you want my two cents I would sell it to a person with a big wallet and a small brain (read: a boat owner ) and spend the profit on a straight Camaro chassis or parts for an engine not designed by Pontiac in 1952.
But that's just my opinion. Worth what you paid for it. |

Is there like a 1/4" hole drilled through the throttle plate?
Might make tuning a bit challenging. |

I believe the ports are larger on the hsr. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

Hole drilled in the throttle plate is actually a legitimate way of providing extra air at idle. I've seen it recommended in plenty of cases where someone is having problems getting a steady idle. That hole does look rather large, though.
Ports do look a little smaller than an HSR. I had mine off recently. _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56

I have seen plenty of holes drilled to improve idle with a cam. Very common among Holley guys. However I have never in my life seen one anywhere near as large as that one. Usually you see one 1/16th or 3/3nd hole in each butterfly, not that monstrosity. |

I wonder if it was setup with no IAC control, and if the iac passage is completly blocked and the butterfly completely closed, i could see it needing a hole that large to idle. |
