A higher amp alt and a duel fan setup. Prefer within 40 or so. Miles of Renton. Also a wander bar and sfcs |

You white car would have had a CS130 with offset mounts. It is indeed a higher output alternator than his (which is presumably a 10si) but would require custom mounts. |

The alt you got from me is good for over 100amps IIRC.... _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

I never used that alt because at the time I wasn't comfortable with changing plug. Now I do few comfortable, but unfortunately I gave it away. |

You could always get the one you have re-wound for higher output, but that costs as much as a new one. My stock CS130 re-wound now outputs 140 amps - original output was 105 amps. _________________ 92 Camaro

The problem with doing that, as well as the cost, is the cooling ability. I see places selling a rewound POS 10si alternator that came from GM/Delco pushing 40, 50, or 60amps that's pushing 100 or 150 amps but it's still the same small case and crappy stamped tin fan! |

If the little alternators can put out 100+ then I don't see why the larger 60ish amp ones with a "small fan" can't put out that much.
Gotta remember too, it's not going to hit that peak output all that often if ever. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

The place that did mine is an alternator shop. I've only had one problem with it when the charging lug detached from the regulator, that was covered under warranty. As for cooling, the tech installed a slightly smaller pulley on the fan. Been working fine for years, but I don't think I've ever pushed it to its full potential... |

Yeah full field is a totally different ball game than nominal output, the only alternators I know of that full field at idle are car audio ones _________________ If you expect a kick to the balls and get a slap to the face its still a victory

I scrapped out my pile of torn down alternators so I' had to hunt down some pictures on Google.
Note the size of the air intake ports on the: 10si, 12si, and the CS130D (with dual internal fans). Which one of those do you think GM/Delco designed for 40amps, 70amps, and 105amps respectively?
On a RWD application with an open engine bay alternator heat is not as significant of an issue. Most of GM's heat problems seemed to arise from their running alternators between the block and the firewall on midsize, high-option FWD cars. If you watch their engineering in the mid to late 90's there was a push to first open the alternator cases, then cool alternators with engine coolant, then just moving them to the "front" of the engine. |
