|
|
Wiring up the alt in the Camaro. Came out of an '00 veesix Firebird. I believe it is a CS130D. It has the flat four-wire plug that is truly flat, not the one with the bigger lug on the end like the early CS alternators got.
GM of course liked to do things wrong because wrong is cheap goddamnit! But I don't do things wrong, I just do them slow, so I want a proper sense wire. Problem is I walked through Pick-N-Pull today and pulled the plug off the alternator of every newer GM and could not find one with a factory sense wire. I did sometimes find the older style but that really does me no good as not only is the plug different but the lug itself is larger.
Here's my question: is the wiring diagram for the CS130 the same as the CS 130D? And are either of them the same as the CS144? If they are the same I am going to take apart the weatherpack connector and just install a sense wire in it.
*Edit: This is the plug I have now. Even fawking Painfull only sells the two-wire style.

Is the alternator plug labeled "S F L P"? If so, you can use any wiring diagram you can find that identifies those letters.
Check this guy's article out, down the page a bit he has some wiring info that should help you identify what needs to go where. You can also use your google-fu to find out about it; you're a smart guy and can figure it out. As long as your connector is labeled with those letters it is the same wiring as any other CS alt.

I believe any series of CS alt has the exact same wiring and plug. _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56

You're right, and I did actually figure it out not long after I posted this. I found several diagrams, although this one was the most helpful:

You believe partially correctly. They seem to have the same pinouts but the plug is different. This is the older style, used from '88 to the mid 90's:

Note the larger lug on the end for the sense wire. It is actually a larger metal connector as well, not just a bump in the plastic. I already took one apart hoping to swap the pins into the newer-style weatherpack but no-go. BTW, this style of plug is used on the later veesix thirdgends. I swapped one into my old S10 using a connector from the junkyard with the proper sense wire and was very happy with it.

see if he has what you want. Very nice guy. |
Nice find, Jay! He totally has what I want and with the proper gauge wire in it as well:

The problem is for 13 bucks plus shipping I'll just build one myself in the shop! |
