You should buy it back.

Ehh... to be honest I'm happier with what I have now. That car is a fantastic streetable ride, but I don't really want that, I want craziness because I am a crazy person. Laughing

I remember it was a decent car with cool upgrades but $3800 seems rather steep.

It's only eight hundred more than he paid for the car with a busted transmission, and he's competitive with the other IROC's for sale. Shrug

Another thing: a woman took the pictures. Wonder if he got divorced or some BS.

No one likes white.

Razz

But seriously, that's crazy. The market is super weird like that. Like I paid three when I bought it back when I was 19, so I don't know what to tell you. Laughing

Gabe actually called and talked to the guy. I guess the transmission is still borked up, but they must have done something to it because it had no reverse when I sold it and he's pulled in forward in all the pics.

LOL usually when reverse goes its the cheap ten cent snap ring that holes the hub or fork in.

He told me the shift fork is bent and it grinds into third like 75% of the time and is really hard to shift into third regardless.

He also said the interior is pretty worn out and it needs a new paintjob. He said "It's a 25 year old car, it needs a few things"

Should I lowball him and see if he bites? Wink

Wierd. When I sold it to him it went into third just fine, but kicked back out because the fork was wallowed or whatever. IIRC the fork can't get bent, it's a cast piece, so he's a moron.

I would guess, like Paul said, that he had some local doofus who is used to building TH350's all day do a quick and dirty on it to get first and reverse working so it was drivable, and it's still totally borked from my romping on it. Laughing

Interior was totally fine when I sold it. No holes in the seats or steering wheel or anything. The color was faded due to the t-tops but that was about it.

I would totally call and offer him two for it. Wink

Shift pad is probably worn out on 3-4. The fork unless upgraded is a small cast aluminum piece known for breaking off completely. Also if it grinder at all the snychro is dead.

How hard is it to take the transmission apart enough to replace the fork and shift pads? I'm thinking the grinding might just be the pads being worn out and it throwing the stick back into neutral when the clutch is let out. Wouldn't know for sure unless I drove it though.

I'm wondering if I could talk $1000+ off for the tranny issues and buy it for under $3k. Would make a decent daily driver if I could fix the transmission for cheap.

"Oh it definitely needs a trans rebuild, that's like $1200 at least. Will you take $2500 cash?" *waves stack of hundreds*

I remember it being a decent car with a tranny that wouldn't stay in gear! Laughing

The teeth on the hub are ground in a way that keep the slider onto the gear under both torque.

Shift forks are cake. If you need to attack the synchro, then you need to do some more work. IIRC, since it's been a while since I had one off, you need to pull the 5/6 gear off before you can pull the main case. All in all it's easy, and sometimes the gear slides off with a little caress. Othertimes you need a long arm gear puller.

But the long arm gear puller is easily made in a garage with a standard gear puller and some flat stock. Very Happy

Like Paul said, 5/6 + reverse need to come out to pull the main case off (don't forget the torx headed alignment dowels that bolt into the side of the case) and than it's just a matter of sliding the old stuff out, new stuff in and shim to spec.

With how many t5s you've had apart Gabe, I bet you could do it in an afternoon but why wouldn't you just throw it all in your camaro? It's no LST56+scattershield but you get a bit more leg in sixth, right?

And if you do pick it up, Aaron might try bargaining you for those centercaps. Very Happy

I totally want those centercaps back! #$%^&*

I would not bet on anything in that trans being an easy fix. As I've mentioned before, when I sold it to him it would not go into reverse at all, ground badly into first, and popped out of third. I seem to remember another gear had an issue as well, maybe fourth was grinding? Fawk, I don't remember. That was three years ago now. Rolling Eyes

Oh it's all totally doable with easily available parts I'm sure, I just don't want Gabe to think he will buy it and there will only be one thing to fix in the trans.

I decided not to buy it anyway. I don't want to have to tear into the T56.

If I bought it and swapped the T56 into my car I would need a new flywheel anyway. $400+ dollars since I have a two-piece RMS.

Not worth buying and fixing, I've got a nice daily driver already.
