I know there's some riders here...
I only have a lame iPhone pic, I just brought it home tonight. Now to get an endorsement and some gear. I kinda went all back-ass-wards on this one. I found a good deal first and have to backtrack to get all set up to ride. I am itching to go out and learn! Never rode a street bike before, but I have done the basics on a dirtbike so at least I know how the controls work.

All I can say is know your limits and DO NOT push past them. This is coming from a good dirt bike rider who's brother wont offer up his latest street bike anymore. I didnt crash it, but didnt respect the power of the bike enough either.
Take your time and be carefull. |

This couldn't possibly go wrong at all... Nope, not even a little bit.
Nice work keeping the kickstand off the floor with the now-useless fourthgen manual! |

It's a 250.
I will definitely be very careful and not ride beyond my ability, I am not really the risk taking kind of guy. However, I am looking forward to having lots of safe, enjoyable miles behind the wheel... err... handlebars on this one.
The girlfriend still isn't home. I haven't told her I bought it yet, or that I was looking for a bike. Will she be mad that it's in the kitchen you think? _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56

Don't be crazy. Women love it when you purchase needlessly dangerous things and then leave them in the kitchen until the "weather gets better." |

Bikes are cool. I don't want to buy one because I know I'd kill myself. If you need any help with anything (parts or know-how) on it, my room mate is a bike mechanic at Bellevue Kawasaki. _________________

Have fun, and remember to take it easy and work up your skills, they will bite you a lot faster than a car will.
Ninjette is a perfect first bike, the 250's handle great, and they don't have the power the big bikes do, so you can learn the throttle control a lot better.
If you haven't done it yet, go take the basic riders course, it is good practice, and good info. |

Yup! I'm bad enough in a car, you don't want me on a bike! _________________ '86 Trans Am - 5.0L TPI - LT1 cam - 700R4 - WS6

I can't believe you parked it in the kitchen. That's awesome. |

It won't last long, though. |

BS. I saw the way you drove last weekend.
That being said, take the class, get the endorsement and drive...err.. Ride defensively. There's enough morons on the road, you've just lost two wheels and a sheet-metal cage to protect you. (but the power-to-weight ratio, adds to the fun-factor). |

You parked a bike in the kitchen. A bike the Girlfriend didn't even know you bought, and you say you aren't a risk taker? _________________ Killing mailboxes since 2009 |

cool bike and great to start on. i learned alot of techniques on my dirtbike that carried over fairly easily. gear is very important because no one on the road will ever see you. im picking mine up from the shop this week quick tip: the bike is not made to charge up a dead battery but to keep it charged

OK, the girlfriend is happy with the bike and kitchen parking is a go until I figure something better out. It's still in the kitchen and will be staying there for a while longer. The biggest obstacle to the kitchen is getting it up the stoop and through the door. Very annoying.
As far as risk taking and : I always drive the car within my abilities; not necessarily within the law. Something I did not learn to do until I flew through the air and wrapped my Z28 around a tree at 80. I learned my lesson that day. I've been very very defensive on the bike, and already I've found that some people just don't see you.
I got my permit and gear Saturday and started practicing on Sunday. I rode for a little over 4 hours and put about 110 miles on the bike. I did lots of test prep and braking practice, and cruised around my neighborhood for the rest of the time. Washington MST is in the cards soon, and passing that means I don't have to do the WA ride test to get a full license.
ATGATT (All The Gear All The Time)
The bike runs absolutely perfect and everything on it works great. The only problem I had was forgetting to turn the fuel back on after kitchen parking; I couldn't figure out why it wouldn't stay running for about 5 minutes. Haven't even gone through one tank of the 4.8 gallons of fuel it holds yet, even with 4 hours+ of city riding. Power to weight ratio? This is the slowest vehicle I own. But it doesn't have to be fast to be fun. I am having a blast just riding normally and completely within the law. I don't foresee that changing.
I felt so cool when a group of bikers on cruisers cruised by in the other lane and all of them waved at me. I feel like I've joined a secret club. _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56
