|
|
Im wondering if anyone has ever relocated the A/C compressor down lower on the serpentine bracket. I'm getting rid of my AIR system (I'm well aware of the legal issues), and I want to clean up and simplify the engine bay. To me the A/C system is the biggest eyesore in there. So has anyone attempted to relocate the A/C compressor, lines, etc? _________________ Richmond 3.73 posi| 36/24 sway bars | SLP LM2 | Koni's | Ground Control 800/200 | Y2K wheels | Dyno Don headers & Y-pipe | airfoil | BBK underdrive pulleys | Raised strut mounts | Extended ball joints | LCARB'S

I relocated it to my trash can?
However, I'm kind of regretting that. _________________

I cannot imagine it's doable without severe modification of the bracketry or new all together. The compressor is huge and the air pump is not. They both are squeezed into their respective holes on that giant single bracket.
If I was to do it, I'd find a smaller import compressor and it's lines, then have a hose shop adapt the two ends to the length of your needing. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

I relocated mine to the shed; if you want it, you can have it. _________________

relocated mine to the scrap yard.
I dont have a roof, what good is AC gonna do
In seriousness though, I understand what your saying. That would look alot better, but I think the ac pump is to deep and would have problems with the exhaust. I think the AC pump on the 93-96 3.4l fbody is alot shallower, might want to look at it then do the custom lines like twlight suggested. |

Ahh... you guys crack me up with this cold-air BS. You live in the rainforest and have no roof. |

Hmm, I should have specified more clearly, I want to relocate the compressor from one spot to another on the serpentine belt drive bracket. I yanked the A/C out of my '85 within my first week of having the car because it didn't work. I've never complained about it either. But when I have a perfectly functioning A/C system I see no sense in getting rid of it. It's kind of nice to have the option of being cold in the mid summer heat
Are there any other cars that have their accessories routed differently with a SBC? I wouldn't mind changing to another serpentine layout. _________________ Richmond 3.73 posi| 36/24 sway bars | SLP LM2 | Koni's | Ground Control 800/200 | Y2K wheels | Dyno Don headers & Y-pipe | airfoil | BBK underdrive pulleys | Raised strut mounts | Extended ball joints | LCARB'S

LT1 compressor is in that spot. Not sure if any of that bracket is interchangeable.
I say pull the whole mess off the block, throw it on the bench and see what it takes to make it fit. |

lt1 bracket organizes everything nicely. But remember there is no water pump to drive and the power steering pump is on the same side as it all. It basically moves all the acc. to the passenger side and leaves the driver side bare.
Also, fyi the lt1 style compressor is smaller and longer than the pancake compressor GM used in the 80's

So just use aircon part of the LT1 bracket?
Without the smog pump isn't the aircon and tensioner the only thing over there anyhow? |

I've wanted A/C back since a few months after I yanked it. Somehow the women around here don't like summer warmth as much as I do. but I haven't been motivated enough to spend the coin on A/C over gofast/stopfast stuff. _________________

You know what, I still have all my LT1 parts. I'll try and dig up my old a/c compressor from the '85 if I still have it, and I'll try some test fitting. I think he biggest obstacle will be the lines. _________________ Richmond 3.73 posi| 36/24 sway bars | SLP LM2 | Koni's | Ground Control 800/200 | Y2K wheels | Dyno Don headers & Y-pipe | airfoil | BBK underdrive pulleys | Raised strut mounts | Extended ball joints | LCARB'S

| Why use the thirdgen compressor? If the later (smaller) compressor will work then use it and have new fittings put on the lines. |

Biggest obstacle is mounting. Lines are easy. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |
