| I have finally came to the realization that I hate PCs and want a MacBook. Is there a huge difference between the MBpro and the MacBook? I don't want to spend over $500 so I know I'm not going to be getting Top of the line, but I just found this, http://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/sys/2926836546.html, good? Or wait until a nice pro shows up. I just saw a late 2008 unibody style for $500 but it's gone already. ): |

| I got my Mac about 4 year ago. Never had a second thought about going back to PC. |

Lol I know. But worth the switch. I'm looking at that MacBook that I posted above, and it seems like all it's internals are good having 2GB of ram and 4ghz processor and a 250gb HDD. And it's only a year old to boot.
Edit: http://seattle.craigslist.org/est/sys/2889660819.html. Then there's this one for about the same price but I believe it's older but has the same internals. |

How about you tell us how many PC's you've bought in the last 8 years? |

| Okay. How much money did you spend on anti-virus, and how many times has it been attacked? |

| I never pay for antivirus (I use Avast). I would say I get a warning about something being blocked a couple times a month. Only once in eight years have I had a virus bad enough that it was easier to wipe than have the remover take care of it. |

Running senor laptop from 2002. Use Avast. No virus problems ever. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

pfff... attacked, that is what a good firewall is for, especially if you set it up like I do where you actually have a public facing "server" also on the network, so all ports are defaulted to the DMZ, while I can control traffic originating and replied to my PC.
Ohhh, and my PC is the same one I built in 2001, haven't upgraded since.
That said, I do sort of like OSX, but for some things you still need a dual-boot to windows option, and there are programs I use that just don't work on OSX, so for some people a Mac is a no-go from the start.
What the decsion **should** come down to, is taking on the fan-boy hat for whatever flavor of computer you think you like, and honestly look at the uses and programs you want/need to run, and check compatability and performance on both platforms, and go from there.
For your average consumer, either one of them will do everything they want, and run the normal programs your average person uses. Really, the stuff that Macs normally excell at, your average consumer is not really going to do. How many joe-shmo's actually run a copy of final cut pro. Same with the PC, how many of them are really running Auto-Cad, or an install of SQL Server Manager, or the types of programs that you just can't get for Mac. Guess what, they both surf the web, both have pretty nice e-mail clients, both can manipulate photo's at the normal user level, and both can sync with your phone, ipod, etc. The rest of the differences are really no more than personal preference. Its like arguing Camaro vs Firebird. |

See, being a crazy person I often like to fire up some ancient ass video games. I don't know if the Mac has emulators for DOS, old Windows games, or the NES/SNES but f***, sometimes I want to play the original C&C or Dune2K or some old SNES Earthbound.
That and the fact that the PC I built eight years ago still hasn't broken badly enough for me to replace it. |
