I've got my brake booster out in order to install the Tick clutch master cylinder. As long as it is out I might as well put in whatever works best.
What is a good upgrade to 3rd gen brake booster? Is it even necessary to upgrade? I know we have some people that have taken very close look at brake options. I want to know what you know (but get it free of effort and in 10 minutes ) |

STAY AWAY FROM HYDROBOOST!
PITA to work on, expensive, diag is an absolute nightmare.
There is no reason to get a different booster. The booster is designed based on the car's pedal assembly and master. You should know this. No reason to change. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

The cool kid option seems to be third gen booster with a fourth gen master. So that's what I did.
Leave hydroboost on trucks where it belongs. The issue with using it on a performance car is that you are often in situations where your wheel is pulled over while you're hard on the brakes. The sudden dropoff in hydraulic pressure in that instance can cause things to go poorly.

Aaron, do you use LT1 or LS1 master cylinder? Any difference? |

I used the master from a pre-98 V6 car, if that's what you mean.
I seem to remember that the LS1 cars had a stepped bore master. Ian would know more about that one than I. |

My stock one is totally dry after draining for a decade, so it is perfect time to replace it with no mess, if there is any advantage.
Just browsing a few threads it seems the LT1 needs different threads for the lines and the LS1 has same threads as 3rd gen, but the rod is different. |

Lines don't matter. You wont be reusing the stock ones since your stock prop valve should be headed for the scrap bin.
*Edit: Just took another look at the master in my car and it is the post-'98 style. Go figure buying used parts on fleaBay. |

Upon further investigation I do not think it matters much. Here is a pic I found of the two torn down (LS1 on top, LT1 on the bottom):

Functionally both the LS and LT MCs are the same. However, the LS style has the low fluid indicator in the reservoir and I have no freaking clue where the low fluid indicator is on the LT cars? ABS assembly?
The ultra big brake cool kids go LS. _________________

Alright, I might hunt down an LS1 F body master cylinder. I've got to redo lines anyway for roll control.
I don't know when and I don't know where, but I do have one immature act of stupidity in mind and it requires roll stop. |
