I was wanting some hooks or something welded in so I can hook my daughters car seat in better. Something similar to the newer cars. She enjoys riding in it, bitvi don't feel comfortable going any further then the store with her. |

I really don't think anyone wants to put their name on a mechanism that isn't DOT approved, that holds your child's life in it's hands.
I know I don't. Get a proper child seat and the backs of these cars are just fine when installed properly. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

I don't really understand the issue here. I've seen child seats put in cars from the late 60's on up. Just belt the seat in and go. |

I think he's talking about something like the LATCH system.
Nobody will want to weld in some sketchy brackets that aren't actually engineered to properly retain a carseat in your car.
However if safety is your concern:

Quote: | Do I need to buy a new carseat? Is LATCH safer than using the seatbelts for installation? Not necessarily. A carseat PROPERLY installed with a seatbelt should be as safe as one properly installed with LATCH. LATCH should make it easier to get a proper installation. |

All my kids have ridden in both my 85 and my 98 Camaro (when I had it) with the car seats belted in. The 85 was actually better because it didn't have that cumbersome shoulder beat to deal with. _________________

I don't think third gens where made for then. Several factors. The seat is held by colt at bottom. Top moves. Seat is small compared to base. Also back backbwhen these cars where made, people didn't use car seats all the time. That's fine if no one wants to help me out. Like I said, I just wanted the added piece of mind |

Car seats used to be made for this type of seat. But most cars have had the anchor system for years now so manufacturers have quit making car seats for us. There are some old threads on tgo about which seats fit in our cars. Recaro made one of the best if I remember right. |

Ya they are really large compared to the seat. I may look up one of those older Seats. That way I don't have to keep switching. The currents seat hangs over my Camaro seat by several inches which make it a bit front heavy which is why I was wanting hooks. |

I used both rear-facing and front-facing car seats in my camaros and it was a non-issue. The seat belts, being bolted to the car and secured, held the car seats very snug. Of course, I wasn't taking corners at 60mph with my kids in the car. If their is an accident in which the seat belt fails, a welded in strap will be of little use. It would probably get detached and become some sort of projectile within the car. Where could it be attached in the car anyways to be effective? |

Behind where the two seat halves meet. I am just a little over protective with my daughter. I gave up a six figure a year income to stay home with her so she wouldn't have to govto daycare, yet allow my wife to further her own. Like I said is more of an added piece of mind then anything. When I use lap belt its still seems similar loose because of how much it overhangs seat. |

The factory belts and seats are engineered well enough for an adult, right? I would think rear facing, back seat, belted in should be as safe as anything else out there, assuming you can fit a car seat and kid back there! _________________ '86 Trans Am - 5.0L TPI - LT1 cam - 700R4 - WS6
