My wife gave me one of those small remote control helicopters. It was fun for maybe 2 minutes when suddenly it dropped out of the air and fell about 10 feet. One of the motor shafts fell down, caused the gear to disengage, and the top rotor lost power. Kind of a bummer. I was hoping to terrorize the cats all night.

Me and my uncle used to play with those all the time. I'd spend the night and they would keep us entertained all night haha but they never lasted more than a weekend

I don't mean this in a negative way towards Jon but I am finding it hard not to laugh at an engineer being stymied by the poor engineering of others.

One of the motors is junk. The shaft has too much play and I think it has been ruined by side load on the gear.

My wife went and got me another one today made for little kids. Laughing I can't control forward and back motion but I have to admit it is tough as hell.

I have one of those little heli's, I think I broke one of the rotor balance weights on its maiden flight. Some tape and re-balancing and it flies again, but is a little limited in performance now as the added rotating mass of my botch job has severely limited its ability to climb.

Thats the engineer we know and love.
If it were a truck driver, we might have simply said.

Sounds like a perfect excuse for a motor upgrade! Very Happy

Those mini helis are fun as long as you fly them inside. If your cat is, welp, a cat, it wont stick around long enough to torment it with one. Trust me, I tried last year when I one for each of my sons. My wifes cat still doesnt stick around long enough to land it on him even though it doesnt freak him out anymore. Guess he isnt as dumb as he looks.
Now if you could put a lazer on it .....

They are fun untill they break. You must have crashed it hard? My 5 YO's copter is still flying...

This thread inspired me.
I pulled out the one heli that still works, charged it up, replaced the leaking RC AA bats and put the 13 YO cat to the test.

The results looked alot like this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tD8ndsZWYTE

Stupid cat, he hasnt killed a bird, mouse, rat, squirel or bug in 5 years but once he saw the copter he was all over it.
