So I'm trying to decide what cam I should go with on my new engine. It's a 350 bored .30 over with a flat tappet cam. I plan on driving it on the street when it's finished so I dont want anything too crazy. I like the sound that the comp thumpr series makes and they make them to mantain streetability. What do you guys think? what set ups do you have in your car? Thanks! |

I have no idea. They're stock heads but they've been ported and polished. If that makes a difference |

Thumper series gives the sound of high HP without the high HP. Why not just choose a cam that makes high HP and you'll get the sound anyway? |

350, 113 heads, tpi.
I have no clue what cam is in it right now. But I'm gathering stuff to make it a home made zz4 crate motor. |

Hey whats the induction on the motor? You will want to take into account compression, induction, heads, gearing and many many other variable before selecting a cam that will work properly. The sounds that a large cam makes are great but it may make for a slug at a stoplight brawl _________________

GM made a LOT of heads, duder.
I'm not a big fan of the big cam in a stock smogger motor thing. Like Zac said it's not gonna be as fun in a street car. |

be aware of the RPM range that the cam is designed to make max power. A lot of BIG cams want to spin to 6k for max power, and if you have stock heads and TPI, you can't provide enough air fast enough to spin that high. You need to find a cam with a power range from idle to 5k-ish if planning on keeping TPI and stock heads.

I know the motor is going into a v6 car and because of the age he is going with a carb once he gets the collector plates. The heads are iron but i dont think they are "smogger heads". they are missing the ramp by the intake valve. not sure if they were 2.02 but they valves did look big. Its a great start for a mild street machine. My recommendation is the comp cams XE268H... The XE274 cam is even better but you dont have to upgrade the torque converter to a 2200 stall
