Looking at an 87 iroc by my house. Hardtop, t5, posi all.stock except gor wheels. All parts there. Body in good shape. But has a bottom end knock . Has all interior. Guy wants 700. I really just want it for tranny, posi amd fog lights. If I sell tpi, wiring, my 700r4, snd rest of car, do you think I would break even??

I think it's possible that you could break even on that. Especially if it was running and driving when you were done, but that might be a bit far-fetched if you're doing two transmission swaps. Razz

Keep in mind the flywheel from that car will not bolt up to your engine and the flexplate from yours will not bolt up to that car. So you would need a flywheel to do the 5-speed swap in addition to any other parts you were thinking of.

Thanks. I will have to read up on the swap, so I can figure out all costs. I offrtrd guy 500 so I will see what he says. I figure I can get a couple hundrwd foe my old tranny, couple more for tpi setup, then try and sell othet small parts. Should be close then

Scrap shell is maybe $100-$150 depending on how much you leave in it. Core 700 is nearly worthless, running 700 maybe a $100 at most. TPI might be $100 but it's impossible to sell a TPI as a set, you have to part it. How's the dashpad? Ground effects complete and in good shape?

I think you will not break even, but I think that at the end of the day you will end up not losing more than a good axle and T5 would have cost you anyhow, so I support the endeavor.

I've gotten close to 400 out of 3 different TPI setups. eBay is the way. They aren't worth anything to thirdgen guys.

Ya. I couldn't get him down to 500. He was pretty firm at.700. One thing I have noticed , its that parts prices do tend to go up in the winter. Amd to follow up with.what paul said, I have seen tpi systems on cl for around 300 to 400, but I don't know of they are selling for that much. The rest of car is clean except one of the lower back seats aretorn and it has a red interior, which isn't that desirable.

If it's that clean why not put another motor in it, swap the transmission,s and sell it as a runner?

Buy a POS SBC for a few hundred, flip the car for fifteen.

BTW, when you say 'IROC' I assume you checked that it is a legit B4Z car?

People seem to be all about that stuff. Boggles my mind, honestly. I can swap spings, sway bars and wheels in a few hours and make me an "IROC".

But whatever. Razz

If that was around here or I had a way to bring it up here I would probably buy it if it's that clean. The red interior is kinda lame though.

Its clean as far as parts go. Has all itsvemblems, chin spoiler not cracked , didnt feel likepinch welds were.messed up, had all of its interior, but it also probably wasnt maintained as.far.as suspension, because the shocks sucked, prob original, and door sgged real bad. Also one thing it was missing was elect fan and the snorkle for tpi. No magor dents that I saw, and I didnt drive it yet to check tranny or posi.

If it's missing the snorkel for the intake then it's probably missing the MAF sensor too, huh?

If you do test drive it keep the speed up. No fan no bueno.

Has mech fan. I didn't look for MAF, because I am not smart enough, but I guess it has snorkal to where it goes into the plasic piece that splits into two. So I guess I can say it has partial snorkle, just missing the plastic piece. I may check it out tommorow. Take it for a spin, point out everthing wrong with it and try to get it for 550 600 bucks

To make an '87 intake fit '86 heads you have to machine the center 4 bolt holes.

What exactly is wrong with the motor?

I bought a TPI Trans Am for $500 once because it had "a spun rod bearing" according to the guy selling; when I want to look at it, the clanking was a bad waterpump bearing. I bought it right then and there.

That car is still running and driving today, with a new waterpump on it.
