I just want to say, I'm okay. No injuries.

Here's what happened:

I was running low on gas, so I went to the chevron up the road, shoved $10 worth in it, and drove it back home. there's a little "s" curve near my folks house (where I keep the car), the SUV in front of me decides he needs to turn left NOW, hammers the brakes, as do I, car starts tailing to the right. He makes his turn, I barely miss his rear end, I try to "pedal" out of it by downshifting and dropping the clutch, but all my wheels do is spin on wet pavement, I'm past the apex and I'm sliding...I hit a street sign on the pass door, and hit the telephone pole on the fender which was about 2 feet away. I end up facing oncoming traffic looking like I'm parked the wrong way with two wheels up on the sidewalk.

This sucks. FML. Insurance is gonna total it, and I know it. It seems like all kinds of bad shizzle has been happening to me in the last few weeks.

That sucks! I know you spent a lot of time and effort making that car everything you wanted it to be. Hope you pull everything good off of it. You'll be back in the saddle soon!

@ aaron, no comp. just liability only. The cop who showed up to the scene to take the report even said that is was a shame, and that he liked seeing guys keep (as he put it) "these kind of cars on the road". Ins is supposed to call me tomorrow or Sat and inspect it. It doesn't really matter, its gonna get totaled, and I'm sure of it.

Anyone know of a 82-84 Z/28 for sale for cheap?

Why's the insurance looking at it if you only have liability and the guy didnt stop? Unless you have uninsured motorist? Otherwise, its all up to you what you do with the car.

Yeah, they will total it for sure. if you didn't have comp on it, I am not sure why the insurance company is involved, they likely won't pay out unless the police report actually indicates the wreck was someone elses fault.

Luckily finding a non running car to move your motor over too shouldn't be all that hard. That really sucks though after all the years of work you put into that car.

(PS -- not to be a jerk right away... but are you still running 2 of the wheels from my car? If so, before the car goes away, can I get those back?!?)

That sucks, Chris. Glad you're OK though. Just in case you're interested, I have a neighbor I've talked to just a couple of times looking to sell his IROC, not sure on the year but obviously not 82-84.

The first one (wants $1500 but will take $750?) lol.

It seems like it could be a good deal, I saw that up a week or so ago as well so I don't think he's having an easy time selling. It's the same color scheme and has the same blue stripe that my car originally had! Smile

Sorry Chris. I had been folllowing recent progress and was happy for you that things were getting up to par for what you wanted with the rig. Chin up, neither you or anyone else was injured and hopefully all the good parts can be moved over to a new shell and just keep moving forward.

I only have minor birdy parts laying around but let me know if you need anything.

Better, stronger, faster Wink

Hang in there man.

Thanks guys.

State Farm called back, and basically Dewey got it right. There's nothing they can do for me. They'll just cover up to 100K worth of property damage. (I doubt a street sign is worth 100k, but it is Portland...) Went to DMV and filed an accident report. So now, I guess I part it and recoup what I can.

My dad said it right, I should have bit the bullet and put collision on it.

This is depressing.... Crying or Very sad Rolling Eyes

Buy a cheap shell to swap over. I basically broke even replacing my crapped-up Z28 with my current shell.

Between the scrap price I got for what was left and selling off the engine transmission and other parts out of the new car, it was a fairly lateral move.

Well motor/trans will stay, along with misc others. I'll post up pretty soon in the "for sale" section what's up for grabs.

Collision would have been just a waste of money. Unless you think paying every month to recoup $1k-1500 is cool.

Like Schultzy said, keep your chin up. Life has a way of taking things away and giving them back ten fold.

It's just a car, take your time and find a donor.

That sucks Man. Hope you find another 3rdgen soon.

That first car Aaron posted the link to has been on Craigslist for a while. Funny that he says he wants $1500 but won't go lower than $750. Guess what my offer would be?!?! Very Happy
