The guy I got the blazer from told me he had his buddy at Jiffy Lube take care of him for the last 5 years. He said he did a good job on the Blazer.

Well...............I have a sticker in the window for an oil change less than 350 miles ago and here is my top right ball joint. Now tell me this thing has been greased regularly for the last 5 years.

I decided I'd check the front brake pads and jacked it up and saw the top of the tire move out about 3 inches. Scared the crap out of me I'd been driving it that way.

I can't tell you how many cars we have come in to the dealership after being serviced by Jiffy Lube and similar places that have dry grease fittings, loose/leaking oil filters, unnoted recommendations, etc.

Change oil fast.
Earn minimum wage.
Dance with the sign.

I don't know what you're talking about, guys. I don't see 'check balljoints' anywhere on the Jiffy Lube employee checklist. Laughing

Had a newer chevy truck in a couple weeks ago. Transfer case plug had a fresh paint pen mark on it. Not sure which quick lube had been doing the service. Anyway, there were no signs of leaks anywhere, but the t-case was completely empty! So it had been empty long enough for the bottom of the truck to get washed clean. The oil pump in the case had actually worn clear through the rear housing, and of course everything else inside was toasty.

You would think with the name of Jiffy "Lube" they would at least make an attempt to "lube" it.

They dumped it and then couldn't get the fill plug out? Laughing

I worked with an old mechanic one time who told me "Whatever you do, take the fill plug out first!" It's been working for me.

Holy crap!

I sell to quite a few quick type lube places and 99% of the guys that work there are 18-20year olds who fall into two catergories. Says they're obsessed with cars but doesn't know much and has a "project" they're DD'ing or just guys that don't know much. Good place to learn but I feel sorry for all the cars they're learning on.

Classic case of "pump rub". It's a common problem on alot of GM HD transfer cases. There is a very inexpensive bushing and plate that can be installed before the pump rubs through the case. If it rubs through, either replace the case our JB weld it along with the new bushing / plate. Or, if you run it to long without fluid, buy a new TC.

This was waaay too long. As in there was no sign of any fluid leakage any more, and the parts inside the case were rusty. Lots of nice metal filings coming out of the planetaries as well. What I thought was funny though was the nice fresh paint pen mark on the fill plug indicating someone had recently checked it! LOL
