I've been good about not spending money friviously for a year and feel I deserve something for myself. I've been on the fence to buy a PS3 (I've tried the XBox and I prefer the PS3) for a few weeks. But at the same time, I'd like to buy a few parts for the Camaro such as a K&N Filter and seat covers and maybe even a aluminum drive shaft. I figured I'd run a poll on here to see which direction to go. Suggestions appreciated Very Happy

Why waste money on a K&N?

To be honest with you James, your car doesn't need any of that stuff.

yeah...still have a number of parts to install. However, is the ps3 going to be something I enjoy for the long haul or am I just satisfying my impulsive behavior?

I use my 2 PS3's constantly, and I don't play games. With a spare computer for storage, it is one of the best media PC options available.

Now WTF is wrong with a K&N or an aluminum driveline?

I understand the K&N i front of the maf sensor, but on a carb or LO3 it is a good modification.

I dislike K&N's because they clog up constantly. I much prefer a nice cheap Wix that I can throw away.

My point was more specific to his car, however. He's got a stock LG4 putting down 140 horse. He is not going to see any tangible gain from little BS mods like this.

IMHO he should either buy the PS3 and be happy, or save up and buy a real motor.

I agree, the mods you want to do are little things that you will not notice while driving your car.

I use my PS3 every day, whether it's to get a run or two in on Gran Turismo with my buddies, or watch media on it. Last night I was watching a presidential debate on YouTube. Other nights, I watch a movie or TV show on NetFlix or a movie from my media server.

For me it was an easy choice. None of the mods I want to do on my car will make a tangible difference with three Benjamin Franklins. So I'm saving to buy a bunch of stuff at once. I don't feel bad about spending that money on a PS3 because I literally use it almost every day for a great many things.

In the end, it all comes down to what's worth it for you, though? None of us should be able to sway your opinion, if one thing is more important to you than the other.

It was hilarious. I think I will stop watching them until they weed out the idiots. I burst into laughter several times. My SO was the one who wanted to watch it.

I agree that the K&N and driveline are not worthwhile buys. But then again, a splurge doesn't have to make any sense at all. The whole point of the splurge is to do something you normally would not do. But still.... there must be better options?

I think that you would get more use from the PS3 but if you are going to compare to performance mods, you can get a nice, brand new nitrous kit from Summit for $370-$400.

If you are going to be impulsive, at least put a big ass grin on your face Very Happy

That's a tough one. I used to enjoy my ps3 untill my kids started playing video games. I haven't been able to play it for over a year now. Only watch movies. But if you have no kids, I say ps3

Damn straight! It'll be a heck of a lot more fun than a PS3 too. Smile But there's that whole "recurring cost" thing with nitrous.

The PS3 wont come with every game you want, so the recurring cost thing goes both ways.

Absolutely true but it is nice to have the extra power when you want it until you get around to putting the kind of muscle you want in your car. This is the route I went. Just thought if we were talking about performance mods vs. entertainment I would offer something up with a little more kick than a free flowing air filter Wink

maybe i'll just save up for a GM 350...not really looking for major power increases as I'd then have to shell out money other things.

Dude, when you come over to my house, do we ever actually work on cars?!?! No, we play PS3 all day! You kinda gotta factor your wife's opinion in here too. Is she gonna be pissed if you buy a PS3? Parts are easier to hide! Very Happy
