Updates!
First off I would just like to mention that when you buy a car that is completely gutless, and you find a box of old plug wires in the back seat, it's probably worth sticking your head under the hood to make sure that the numbnuts in there before you didn't swap the two and four. The Banana runs pretty damn good now with no weight and all six cylinders. I was so pleased by this I brodied for half a block.
Some other random notes from the shop:
I've posted here before about GM blower motors and the different sized squirrel cages you can run in order to use an aircon motor on a delete box, and this is what I'm talking about:
The delete motor has the black cage, the aircon one has the white cage. As you can see the shaft for the aircon motor is much longer than the delete shaft. The aircon cage has very long blades, too long to fit in the delete box. You need to hit up FWD cars in the junkyard till you find a cage like the white one in the pic with short blades and the provision for the long driveshaft.
The reasoning behind this is to get a larger, and presumably heavier-duty motor. Note the size difference in the cases, which is reflected in the windings. One issue is the air inlet for the motor. In the pic below you can see the issue. This can be resolved by getting several bypass tubes from the junkyard and joining two together.
And that's enough about shafts, on to petals!
Anyone on TGO who tells you you can't mix and match third and fourthgen pedals has cousins for parents, 'cause I just did it:
All that stuff about different sized shafts on the clutch pedal and whatever is all a bunch of bull. The master cylinder is about a quarter inch diagonally down and to the left vs the thirdgen one, but I did not even need to ream out the holes, there was enough slop for it all to fit together nicely. The clutch engages a little bit lower, which I prefer to the thirdgen style. It also pushed the clutch pedal over to the driver's side an inch or more which is really nice when you wear size 11-2E workboots.
This is how she sits as of this evening:
Now I've just got to convince myself to start cutting into a working harness, and to pull a running engine. Stay tuned! |

Nice! Now get that motor out! And then we can have a race to completion.

Only if the results are weighted against an actual race once (if?) I ever get done. |

Those GTA seats were probably really nice at one time. _________________ '86 Trans Am - 5.0L TPI - LT1 cam - 700R4 - WS6

Not sure, B. I will probably keep the accordions, they are sweet. I really love these seats, they are comfortable and totally unique (my two favorite things ).
They are too heavy for my flyweight taste, but I'm thinking of gutting the air crap out of them. Think I'll wait till I have some ass-time in them before I decide. |

Bah! Not parting out GTA seats!
I just mention that I was considering removing the air system and whatnot to make them lighter and you guys are in here like vultures. |

Oh crap, I broke another perfectly good running car again!
What an idiot I am.
Haha...
BTW, what the hell is this thing? Some sort of A/C delete baffle or something? Never seen one before:
Question: Do the crash bars for the more highly-optioned cars have more meat than this one? I seem to remember the crash bar from Bondo Bucket not having the holes in it, but maybe I'm just smoking crack. (Yes, I know it's not the original bar, neither is the bumper. Horns seem straight, and everything else is original.)
Stay tuned! |

Just part of an air box. I have the same (complete) on my 89. Most get removed for better flow, but I haven't had any issues with mine, and I'm too lazy to get up in there and remove it |

What year was the bondomaro? The 82/83 cars had lighter different crash bars and front sheetmetal than the later cars, if i recall. |

Both were 85's.
I think the one I have is normal and I'm just being retarded (it's been known to happen). |

Oatis ftw!
I think i have noticed different metal on the 82-83 as well, aside from the aluminum variety. I dont think you can use then though because the plastic is different. Can someone verify? _________________ E30
