I've finally gotten around to starting the task of removing the front subframe from the SHO so I can rebuild the transaxle. I pulled the front bumper cover off and lifted the front end using an engine puller on the front bumper, while leaving the rear on the lift. I put it back on the floor for now I need to get my hands on some tall jack stands before I'll get underneath. I'm planning on using a chain hoist from above to lower the assembly once everything is loose.
I think while I have the bumper cover off I might install a tranny cooler with fan and maximize the life of the rebuild.
On a side note yesterday I got the AC to work on the bird just in time to go for a nice drive up to Port Townsend. _________________ 2010 Cobalt LT

Removed the sub-frame today. This week I'll start rebuilding the transaxle and hopefully reinstall it all next weekend. _________________ 2010 Cobalt LT

So after tearing the transaxle apart today I discovered why the car wouldn't upshift. The intermediate clutch pack was burned pretty bad and obviously got very hot at one point. I think a sticking shift solenoid probably caused it or possibly the bonded piston crapped out. For this being my first automatic transmission it is going very well with the exeption of compressing the return springs, although I found a way to use the press to help. _________________ 2010 Cobalt LT

I have the clutches all put back together and all but one of the return springs. I need to find something better to use to compress it I can get it close but I don't want take a chance and warp them or something. I haven't taken the valvebody apart yet but I'll do that as soon as the rest of the parts are back in the case and I have a nice workspace so I don't loose anything. It's supposed to be simple as it's electronically shifted. Other than that clutch pack being toasted so far the thing looks brand new inside. Maybe if this goes well I'll rebuild the 700-R4 I have sitting in the garage and sell it. _________________ 2010 Cobalt LT

Assembled ready to install finally. Tomorrow I'll try to at least get it mounted in the subframe to the engine. _________________ 2010 Cobalt LT
