Poll unrelated to anything important.
I like building miniature electronics. It gives me time to think.
Comments welcome. That is all.
EDIT: I may be getting tired of pounding gears everywhere. I've never owned a car with an auto.* Much less a built auto.
*Except for flip-for-profit cars. Nothing I've driven daily however. _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56

The T-56 with the clutch sounds like more fun than the auto. _________________ '86 Trans Am - 5.0L TPI - LT1 cam - 700R4 - WS6

I've said it before while others make fun of me... remember I swapped my auto for a manual in my car, but I don't think automatics can't be fun. My 700R4 with the shift kit chirpin' second everywhere when I was 16 was pretty fun, you can relax that left leg at stop lights, and drop it into first when you pull up on a honda. |

Time and a place for autos, but in a toy no place
Unless its a fully dedicated drag car running sub 10's, even then Id be hard pressed to go auto To predictable and boring _________________ 1987 - Trans am GTA, hooker headers, Borla catback, Cat delete, CAI, 9.6 @ 75mph 1/8mile

What do you want to do with the car? Just drive it?
You'll get tired of the constant hard shifts with the auto in daily driving and wondering if the trans is going to overheat. But on the other hand, you'll never get tired of leaving those manual guys sitting on the line in a drag race. |

I swapped to my T56 from a TH350 with a 3000rpm stall. I actually had a lower ET and better RT and better 60' with nothing else changed..... by rowing myself. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

And you'll never get tired of leaving Paul at the line in a drag race either. |

Paul, I don't suppose your T56 is on the chopping block for parting out is it?
The Camaro is not a daily driver, it's simply for fun. I don't think I'd mind harsh shifting and a high stall, but I don't really know for sure. I wish I could drive a high stall built auto around here somewhere. It would help my decision a lot.
T56 vs. 4L60E total cost would be similar. With a T56 I could probably get away mostly stock but with a decent clutch and maybe a couple upgrades. With the 4L60E I would be able to build it up myself and build my own trans controller for the electronic side, but the cost still adds up pretty quick. T56 is maybe harder to find for a good price, but 4L60Es are all over the place as cores for peanuts. I keep going back and forth, because I've always owned manual transmission cars and it seems like it might be getting a little boring. My plan was always to go T56, but since I've driven my dad's car around a lot recently, I've noticed the T56 frankly shifts pretty crappy. My T5 in my car is waaay smoother into gears and it is much easier to slot the right gear the first time in mine. (with stock shifter and bronze shifter cup bushing) The T56 in my dad's car (with aftermarket shifter) is really notchy, stiff, and easy to miss third. It takes some serious grunt to shift that thing fast. And it's only got 60k easy miles on it.
Pros of 4L60E:
New and exciting
Fancy electronics and features
High stall and shift kit maybe gives advantage in straight line racing
No mis-shifts
Easier in traffic
Pros of T56:
Shift yourself, rather than just plant it and go
Fairly bulletproof with upgrades
Lower cruise RPM
Other people like it more. (at shows and stuff)
Better for road race/autocross etc.
I'm slowly dialing my car into exactly what I want, and I really want to make the right decision for me. I just don't know what that is yet. I think about running a built auto, and it sounds like lots of fun. Then I think about a T56 and it sounds just as good. _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56

Talk about hard-to-find! I would love to run a 6L80. Seems all there are out there are 'Vette and AWD SUV versions of these. I think I would need to find a G8 version to even think about it, and then the price tag...
Plus it's way harder to control a transmission that's entirely shifted with PWM solenoids when your entire goal is to not touch a GM ECU. _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56

| Im with Paul, don't like paddle shifters either. From what I hear T56's aren't totally bullet proof. |

550 flywheel torque with standard upgrades. More with viper upgrades. More with tranzilla. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

I'd probably run it stock til I fragged something then rebuild to viper spec. Do upgrades on a T56 make it any easier to shift? _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56
