Maybe all this offroading...
I've been noticing a gas smell for awhile, I presumed one of my braided lines had started to leak. (Had that happen before, the inner liner tore). However, while under the car today I happened to look up at the joint between the filler neck and tank and the solder is separating pretty bad. |

Those can be re-soldered. the 92 tank I have in my 86 firebird has about an inch of solder around the neck. i took it to a guy I knew down in LA when I was down there and he did it for me. "Dyno Don" on TGO, but any good welder should have the talent to pull this off.
i tweaked that thing prety good getting it back in too, no leaks. |

| Nice idea, and I might have to do that. My walbro is still functioning fine and as far as I know I can't swap over the pump to the 4thgen assembly... I was just trying to upgrade without it being too costly. |

Ian, you should just do it the Quiktrip way,
buy complete 4th gen for the gas tank,
get a good deal on another gas tank,
decide to sell both of those tanks to buy an even better tank.
have 3 tanks in the garage,
put the birdie back in storage for another 10 years |

I can't believe you actually remember all those details. You really do care for me after all!
Ian, I have 2 tanks in the garage, one with stock pump and another with an $1100 Nasty fuel system with billet fuel rails and hot wire kit. My plan (today) is to keep the stock tank and upgrade to Racetronix pump, and put cash back in my pocket with the other setup. I don't think you're looking for something like the Nasty setup, are you? |

I can barely deal with not driving the car for a day or two. I can't even imagine ten years!
I stopped off at a buddy's shop today and asked if he knew anyone local to braze the tank back together. He said he's had luck just mig'ing them. Is this a good idea? Isn't there a decent coating on the inside I'd burn away? (obviously I'd fill it with water or something non-flammable). |

Well, I'm always LOOKING. However, I have nowhere near the cash for something like that. _________________

Woops, I made a mistake. That was supposed to be 1100 HP, not $1100. Big difference. |

| Try radiator shops Ian. They're the normal place to go. Also if the thing is originally soldered you wont be able to weld it. While its possible to weld on a gas tank, its not my favorite thing to try either. |

| After the first explosion it should be completely safe to continue welding. |

Ive seen people work on that principle.
My boss used to repair gas tanks until he blew one up. After that he had alot more respect for them.. and we didnt do any more tank repair. |

What would you be looking to dump it for? |

That's kind of what I figured. I'll be down in Tacoma tomorrow and I'll stop by one of the rad shops I used to deal with. It'd have to be REALLY cheap for me to do that because I can get a brand new thirdgen tank for $130 through work. However, if I pull it out I kind of want to upgrade to a larger tank! Decisions! |
