1992 Chevrolet Camaro RS

PostPosted: Thu Jun 16, 2011 5:51 pm    Post subject: New Badges Reply with quote

Just prior to the COWS weekend, I put in an order for new emblems for my 89. We worked out the details last week and they arrived today. Since the car doesn't have much RS stuff on it any more, I thought I'd do something a little different

What you see here is one of the stock RS badges that was on my 92 and the new piece(s) that will take the same spot on the 89. Each is 3 pieces, except the rear , which is four pieces. They are really thin polished stainless steel (the gold in the picture is reflection of indoor lighting), and stacked up all 10 pieces are just under an inch high.

These are made by the same guy that made my RS badges for the purple 92. I ordered them when he had a store on e-Bay, then I recently stumble upon his on-line store. He still has the RS stainless as well as some Z28 stuff for 3rd gens. I used the "Contact" tab on the store's site to make the order, everything was worked out through e-mail from there, including rough draft pictures.

I think they came out great!!

Here's the site if anyone cares to take a look...

I got a set mounted into one of the GFX "frames" that hold the emblems. The RS piece came out of a holder which is supposed to have a pair of studs which attach it to the GFX rocker. I separated them, then painted the inside of the holder to match the car, left the outer edge black, and placed the 383 pieces over the red.

Here's a temporarily installed rocker badge. I might go ahead and paint the rest of the outer edge and do away with any black showing.

I've got another temporary install. I decided that without first repainting the car, that using the original RS insert was the way to go. It also makes removal. if necessary, easier as it will be one piece instead of four. I removed the RS emblem from the rear, which was in sad shape, then scuffed it and painted it body color prior to setting the new stainless pieces on it. I still need to find something to remove the old adhesive from the bumper before making this more permanent.
