I didn't just smoke an RX8, I annihilated an RX8 from a stop light. That car is SLOW!

I was cruising pass the guy on the highway when he started to pace himself beside me and rolled down his window. Light turned red in front of us and I figured, How convenient! Very Happy I have zero experience with an RX8 so I gave it my all... you know, just in case. Laughing As it turns out that was entirely uneccessary. So I Google 0-60 time tonight and I find 7.5 seconds. LOL! There are stock full size trucks quicker than that.

Heavy car, tiny motor, no torque vs. very heavy car, large motor, lots of torque.

I think they're like what... 15.5 cars? They aren't fast, but you'll never keep up in the corners.

They're even worse with an automatic.

My 2.8L 5-speed Sport Coupe fended off an auto RX8 once upon a time...

Those things are turds. Along the same line of thought, the last gen TT RX7's bone stock were not that quick either.
I pasted one of those with my wife's old 2000 T/A 6speed from a 60 MPH roll on I405. AT 120 he was about 4 cars back. We both pulled off at the next exit, I stopped short at the light so I could talk to him. He stopped really short of the light and would not get next to me.

The 3rd gen turbo RX7? They were quicker than the square 2nd gen 80's ones. Keep in mind guys, from about 86 on, these cars were all over 3000lbs and kept getting heavier.

It's funny you should bring up RX8s as I raced one today. It had a loud exhaust and the guy was revving and mean-mugging me @ a light. I launched perfectly and he was sleepin. easily beat him to the next light. I could hear him really wringing it out too!

I used to smoke them in my 3.5 V6 Altima all the time w/o breaking a sweat. They need serious boost to be anything special. Never been impressed.

im gonna have to come to the defense on the rotary here (hate me for it but oh well lol)

The RX8 is a PILE, too heavy with no balls, throw an auto on it and you hav an expensive hunk of junk, tailored for women. The excellent thing about rotarys is you can pull it out with 2 sets of hands, it has 3 moving parts (not including the throttle body) and you can rebuild the entire thing in a night, youve got 2 rotors and the excentric shaft, thats it! lol you can also do a full street port using a dremel and make it a 2 day job....

The rotary itself is an awesome motor, in the RX7 that is, FC's had the 13b in either N/A or turbo'd on the TII models, FD was just balls out twin turbo fun. I used to drive my friends FD regularly in az, those things are retardedly fast, they wind out quick and they can stop on a dime. PLUS you could also get a track motor with a 3 rotor setup!

My other friend has an 87 TII that runs like a 12 i think and all we did was set up a fuel cut defender (ecm cuts fuel to the back rotor after like 6psi of boost) and put an rtek 1.2 in it for a tune. They come stock with 4.10s in the rear when youve got the TII

All in all i would love to have an rx7, and 8.....you couldnt PAY me to drive one lol

Rotary engines are cool the same way two stroke dirt bike engines are cool. They both have the same drawbacks though.

Hey, I found this useful diagram of how a rotary engine works:
