I have just aquired some 062 casting vortec heads Cool

I want to put them on my current TBI 305 and get a cam that works well with them. I have a few questions that im having trouble finding answers to.

I know I'll need a vortec specific manifold, And I know any carb intake with a TBI adapter will work BUT, will a single plane or dual plane work better?
Also I've read that compression will go down to much unless I get these heads milled down, but I haven't been able to find out how much they need to be milled for good use on a 305.
And of course the cam, this will still be my daily driver once it's all done, I was thinking of one with specs like this one:

I wanna talk to everybody lol. But that cam is pretty much just like dewey's. figured that it worked great for his combo.

Single plane with TBI will net more top end. Not MUCH sacrifice on the low end.

Find a TBI specific Vortec manifold IMHO. Otherwise hood clearance might be a premium.

I think that is the exact same cam I have, at at least VERY close. Since my cam designer worked for Lunati for a while.

You know the numbers my car makes, if you want a little more there are several good cams that work, I think the 210-215* intake range should go very well in your car. For a bit much agressive grind than mine, this one looks pretty nice.

Just make sure your Votecs are machined to take the extra lift, and get the right springs.

That is another thing, how do I choose the right springs?

There should be a spring recommendation with whatever cam you choose. Make sure they fit your heads. If you do choose a lunati cam however.. I have NOT had good luck with their springs. I've broken 7 or 8 of them in my truck over a 3 year period. Last year I bought a set of summit branded springs that are spec'd similarly. So far so good. Since summit owns trick flow.. i think they're probably trickflow springs(which will actually be made by someone else yet LOL)

I have a similar intake going on my new motor. It's a Vortec to match the heads and made for TBI, and costs a little more.

Don't know the brand offhand, the builder selected it for me specifically for the heads and throttle body.

I would try to find a low-rise single plane intake for vortecs, and forget a TBI specific intake. The single plane is the ticket IMHO.

Oh I see, do you the specs on your cam off hand? I know yours is going to be a 383 but still should be similar.

I left that for the builder to decide, and he hasn't yet. I'll have a data-sheet for the motor when delivered which will have all the important stuff on it. I'll post the particulars when I get it.

Don't sure how tall that one is, so it may or may not fit under the hood. You would have to do some more checking.

I did see that one, it's a decent price too. its a little more than 6 inches high, I'll have to measure the stock one and see how much room I've got.

Yeah, that seems a little. I did a quick google, and the Weiand I have, they say is 4.5" height at the back, 3.5" at the front. I'm not sure where the summit one is measured. But, i also have a nitrous plate, and the thicker style of adapter. With a thin plate, you could probably run a 5.5" okish with a 3 filter. The problem with TBI, is the stupid air cleaner bolt won't allow you to run much lower than a 3" element with a drop base, since with the taller intakes, you will need to remove the spacer ring, and then cut the top off the bolt.

I think I have a 3" filter on there now, along with a TBI spacer. That'll have to go for sure.
Why is it that single plane intakes usually have a much higher RPM range like 3,000-up?
