I'm putting tires on my SS wheels soon and I want to make the best choice. I'm going to be running 275/40R17 on all 4 corners.
I know a lot of you guys run the BFG G-Force T/A KDW tires, I was thinking of getting a set of those. Anything I should beware with those tires? Is there another tire that may be better for mostly dry weather without being too much more expensive? I've looked at a lot of different tires and these ones seem to perform well in dry weather with occasional wet weather use, while still not being outrageously expensive. _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56

Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3
Michelin Pilot something or others.
I run the Goodyear. Almost as sticky as my MT Drag Radials and do just fine in the water. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

I would run the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 in a split-second if they didn't cost $100 per tire more than the BFG. Thanks for the suggestion, I thought about it for a long time. _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56

I have Nitto NT555's and have really loved them from the limited driving experience I have on them. _________________ Richmond 3.73 posi| 36/24 sway bars | SLP LM2 | Koni's | Ground Control 800/200 | Y2K wheels | Dyno Don headers & Y-pipe | airfoil | BBK underdrive pulleys | Raised strut mounts | Extended ball joints | LCARB'S

I have some falken ze502 on the rear of mine. Been doing good so far. Doubt they are in the same class as the ones you mentioned though.
Also, someone on here said they werent happy with them, but I am. _________________ 2008 GMC Z71

Heh, that was me that said I wasn't too happy with them... I have them on my rear wheels right now but they seem only average to me. Not that they're bad, they're just not terribly good.
Thanks for the input. _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56

I've had my Falken ZE502s for a couple weeks now and I love them. They've been getting lots of use in the rain and they're stable and confidence inspiring. Good grip and little road noise in the dry. _________________ '91 Firebird - LO3, 700R4, 2.73 gears

Crazy, like I just said up there while you were typing, I have those tires on the back of my car and I have been very unimpressed with the wet weather traction. They're like skates when it's damp out for me, and they seem to let loose pretty easily in the dry as well. _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56

That's odd. Granted my car isn't nearly as powerful as yours but I havent had any traction issues. Between me and my GF the 'bird gets driven almost everyday and we've been completely happy w/ these tires so far. I've had Falken's on 2 other cars in the past ('95 Z28, '02 Seville STS) and I've always had good luck w/ them. |

Maybe I just got a bad set. I had Sumitomo HTR ZII before this and the Sumi's were way worse, but the Toyo Proxes I had even before that seemed a lot better than both of these sets.
So far my experience has been:
1. Toyo Proxes
2. Falken Ziex ZE-502
3. Sumitomo HTR ZII
If I could afford the Goodyears and not feel guilty about dropping well over a grand on tires, I'd be getting those ASAP, but I couldn't see myself spending that much on tires...
Still leaning towards the BFG G-Force T/A KDW.
The opinions and stuff are great, keep 'em coming. If anyone has a "diamond in the rough" tire or something to stay far away from, please let me know... _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56

My KDWs have no traction whatsoever. but I don't really have anything to compare them to on this car? I was thinking of going nitto invo on the next go around. My buddy put those on his GTO and has been incredibly happy with them. I hear they get greasy with lots of abuse (trackdays) but hard street driving they're fine. _________________

I kinda worded it badly... But yes, thanks for the best choice tire.

Your torque might have something to do with that. _________________ '86 Trans Am - 5.0L TPI - LT1 cam - 700R4 - WS6

Definitely lots of factors. I have to make a conscious effort to break my tires loose now. Good shocks, proper lca angle, torque arm and geometry, and these awesome tires.

ha, rofl. ops.
My car isnt all that powerful, but the tires I had before would spin any time any day, any weather. These I have to really punch it and yank the wheel to get it to spin and even then its not very long at all.
I drive on nice days 95% of the time. I did go in rain once and it spun, but it was an area I expected to as well. |

I was looking towards NT05s next time around but they don't make them in a big enough size. |

I'm right around your torque number, under a bit on the HP though. What width tires do you run? I'm really trying to think of a way to swing the Eagles and stay in my budget. What sort of treadwear lifetime do you get from them?
Right now my 275 width Falken ZE-502 will spin if I roll onto it in first, and they will spin a bit in second if I nail it. I am betting those problems would be completely eliminated with some 275 width Goodyears. At $277 a pop it's just a little painful...

Lame, they do make them in my size though. For $168 per tire, I may have to try them out. _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56
