That's crazy stuff. So what's the hold up these days? Government profiting from gasoline sales?

My dad always talked about a big 3 / US oil producer conspiracy regarding a patended carb that delivered fantastic fuel economy in the late 60's - early 70's. About 15 years ago he mentioned it again and I challenged his story. He told me he read about it in the readers digest. For the youngsters on the site, the Readers Digest was the gospel ( and found in every bathroom) of most baby boomers. In the article they advertised that an one could send X dollars to an address and the gilted inventor would send copies of the pattend to the purchaser.

My dad paid the dough and was sent a copy of the patten and the testing procedures. I read the whole discription of how the carb worked. The thing that kept popping into my mind was that all of the tests were at a static RPM and load. The inventor may have been on to something but it would have not delivered any thing close to what was claimed in the real world automotive environmemt.

I still have the paperwork some where, maybe I should post it up?

Anyone else ever heard this tail?

Thats a classic tale. The ad was in the back of all car mags, and even comic books. From what i've heard it used exhaust to heat the fuel to vapor point. Since liquid gasoline doesnt burn, but only the vapor this created a much more equal combustion without fuel going unspent out the exhaust...

The bad thing is.. mixing fuel vapor and exhaust.. Laughing

I saw a 99mpg call that used a fuel heater like you mentioned. Basically heated the fuel to near the flash point. Once it is up to that point you can run lean cruise modes of 17-21:1 AFR Shocked
