Sad So we went to the gas station and whilst driving i heard a grinding in the rear end. It wasnt all the time, just when I hit the throttle.

Bad rear end? Or simply no fluid?

If you got no fluid I'd say yes, the rear is bad or gonna be real quick! Wink

might be a bearing, if its only while accelerating its load related,

the 10 bolt is famous for cracked pinion teeth is ya hammer on it hard, so that another possibility

If you hear grinding from your rear end then you need to see a doctor immediately.

If you hear grinding from the rear axle then you might check the pinion bearing. As far as fluid, there's an easy way to find out.... check it. Wink

If it's turning only, look at wheel bearings. If it's acceleration (forward load) or coasting (rearward load) look at gears/pinion bearings.

Well we took off the cover, and it seemed to be a little bit low. But I figured out since the load of the car was on the front more the exhaust pipe was rubbing on the ujoints. No damage, just a little grinding. There was a lot of metal on the magnet that's on the cover. Idk if that's normal or not. If the right wheel spins one way, but the other spins the opposite way, what kind of differential in it?

Alright thats what I originally thought. I got a little excited when I saw both tires moving. hahaha.

But I'm pretty sure all that grinding noise i was hearing was from the u-joint rubbing on the exhaust pipe when I hit the gas or turned. hm, how to fix this.

anyone think it could just be my shocks are worn? Like when you hit the gas the front end wants to fly up causing the u joint to be closer to the exhaust by putting more load on the rear end.

If there's an obvious wear mark on the exhaust, my guess would be that the muffler hangers are crapped out, or gone altogether. That will cause the over-axle pipe to bang on the driveshaft or the panhard bar.

Yeah there's some wear on it. not a lot considering it's a brand new galvanized 3" pipe. Confused

I tried just moving the pipe out of the way. hahaha. yeah rightt. I think when he installed it he just bent it so its too close to the pipe. Right now the car is on jack stands, but when I jacked up the front of the car more, it moved the ujoint out of the way from the exhaust. Confused

How do I know the shocks are shot?

That's what I was afraid of. Do I have to change them all at once?

Depending on which ones aren't good I'll just change the sides that are bad. The front ones should only be bad for now. But idk yet.

Any suggestions on a good cheap brand?

monroes are good if you just want stock replacement, I'd suggest you wait, save your money and replace all four with a good performance set. I am in the process of putting KYB AGX adjustable struts and shocks in my car.

I was looking at the KYB G2's. Not super expensive.

KYBs period for OE or slightly better performance/longevity.

Replace in pairs. IE Fronts(struts both sides) or Rear (shocks both sides).

*two cents*

Monroe. Thumbs down
KYB if you're on a budget. Thumbs up

I'm thinking you need to take a trip back to the exhaust shop if the welder put the pipe that close to the driveshaft. Or just buy my Magnaflow SS catback. Very Happy

I'll agree with Paul on the KYB's. I"ve got them on the front of my bird and they work great, and the price is nice too.
