Tried to call you a couple of times, John, but heard you were pretty sick. Hope you're better.

Later,

James

I'm back. Camaro is dead right now however. Battery won't hold a charge. Yeah, I've been pretty sick, coughing up blood and all that fun stuff. I'll hopefully have a new battery by Saturday, 'til then I'm driving the beater. Cool

Damn that sucks dude! hope you feel better soon. If you need to borrow a battery for awhile I've got an extra side mount one laying around here somewhere.

Glad your back, dude. I knew you were pretty sick for a while there. Sounds like you need a new alt. Go for the 94amp and you should be set. Are you working tomorrow?

Later,

James

Its not the alt. Keeps the batt at around 14 volts while running. There is a drain on the battery somewhere when the car is off. I suspect my Mallory ignition box. I'm gonna check it out tomorrow. Smile

I had an mysterious draw in my old 87 for the longest time and I could never figure it out. When I went to rip out the stereo it ended up being a shittily wired amp. The remote wire was always on.

That was my first thought. I pulled the amp wires as soon as I realized there was a problem. Sad

it could be the built in regulator on the altenator...when i took my alt to schucks, it tested good, (no load on it), but when i put it back in the car, nothing, so i just went ahead a replaced it and no problems since Smile

Well, I got the opposite problem. The alt charges the battery fine when the car is running. The battery drains while the car is off. I am gonna fix it tomorrow one way or the other. Cool

Well, I fixed the fuse blowing problem (lighter was grounding out), but my battery still won't hold a charge. Sad

I'm not going to work tomorrow, Thursday. Are you going to be home John? I can probably stop by and help out some. I still think it is the regulator (built into the alt. and it all needs to be replaced) but we can see. Later,

James

Hey James, I finally got weekends off, so I'll be at work tomorrow and Friday. I need to look at the alt belt routing on your '85. I am gonna replace the '84 alt with the one from my '91. It has the wide pulley like yours. Can I come by on Saturday?

Hey Ian, I'll probably just take the battery to Schucks and have them test it. How does a hydrometer work anyway? I've seen them, but have no clue how to use one.
