|
|
I have started my rear pbr swap, which is going well except for the rotor fitment. I am using the rotors from a 95 camaro, and the 4 gen calipers on a 3rd gen 9 bolt rear end. The rotor slides over the wheel studs and sit flush on the axle flange. The holes for the wheel studs to go through the rotor are not centered to the wheel studs on the axle and are slightly larger than the original 10.5 inch rotor stud holes.
The new rotors have stud hole diameter close to 5/8 of an inch and the old rotors have a stud hole diameter of 1/2 inch. The only problem I have with this is that the rotor has the ability to turn slightly on the axle.
Do 4th gen camaro's have larger wheel studs? Should I have gotten the rotors for an 89 camaro?
Thanks for the help |

| I found some info from thirdgen.org and found you are able to use the fourth gen calipers, however you are not able to use the fourth gen rotors you must use the 3rd gen rotors. |

My 4thgens rotors were like that. A bit larger in the lug hole but I bolted the wheel on anyways. I can't remember how much larger though. Been okay for ~5years or so. I would presume with the wheel torqued down correctly you've adequately sandwiched the rotor in place but who knows? _________________

| The rotors were a little sloppy on my 2001 SS. I suppose the clamping force of the wheel holds it in place. |

| Autozone had them (89 rotors) at the hub in seattle so I will get the set tomorrow and keep you updated. |

So you can put 4th gen calipers directily onto a 3rd gen axle?
Wonder how parking brake setup works as mine refuses to work. |

Yes you can put 4th gen brakes on a 3rd gen rear. The rear end I started with already had disc brakes, so mounting was easy, they bolt right up. I went with the later style (LS1), so the e-brake was slightly more involved, but not difficult. I took everything from the donor car, including the handle. Read about it here...

So you can put 4th gen calipers directly onto a 3rd gen axle?
89-97 had the same rear brakes. I had to buy a bracket from flynbye.com to mount the caliper on the the rear end because I have a 9 bolt rear. I believe it would be a direct swap if you have a 10 bolt. |

| 9 bolt rears are different from what I've heard. Direct swap to a 10 bolt. |

I was looking at that link. Fairly cool except you gotta pull the axle shaft out.
The ebrake doesnt work on mine , that would be only reason for me to swap. |

| The 89 brake rotors do have the correct size wheel stud holes. |

I swapped LS1 rear brakes on to my GTA's 9 bolt. I used the entire 4th gen brakes from the backing plate out. Just had to have the backing plates redrilled to the right bolt pattern, and a small spacer made.
The larger brakes barely fit under my stock 16" rims just so you know, I had to grind off the PBR on the caliper for clearance.
I haven't hooked up the ebrake yet though, so I cant help a whole lot with that part. _________________ 1987 - Trans am GTA, hooker headers, Borla catback, Cat delete, CAI, 9.6 @ 75mph 1/8mile
