All the ones I've seen are "covers" that go over the stock a-pillars. My dual pod was like that. I had to cut a hole in the factory trim piece to feed the wires through and rivet/screw/whatever the pod to the pillar piece. Fairly easy, just don't do it too low otherwise it hits the dash.
I think I've seen the triple pods that go the entire length of the pillar piece but they're still just covers. _________________

Why doesn't someone make one that replaces the stock trim piece with the pods molded in? _________________ '86 Trans Am - 5.0L TPI - LT1 cam - 700R4 - WS6

because that would be intelligent lol id buy one in a heart beat, i didnt wanna mess with the pillar pod cuz mine are warped to hell and back from being an AZ car, speaking of which...does anyone have a set of black a pillars for a t-top car in decent shape? Mine are driving me insane lol
In any case i went with a triple gauge setup underneath my center vents, flushed them back into the dash as far as i could, it looks pretty clean _________________ If you expect a kick to the balls and get a slap to the face its still a victory

I thought the one I had was full replacement?
Anyway, I have a tripple in mine. It makes removing the dash pad PITA! _________________ 2008 GMC Z71

The full pillar autometer one is a cover and yeah PITA to remove the dash pad. You drill holes and install little trees to hold it up. Buy extra trees, cause they dont hold well, and once they've come apart they're pretty much dead. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

| Ok, maybe thats why I'm not overly happy with fitment. I ended up cutting n drilling mine and making it install like a stock vert piece. |

Aren't the Vert pieces different? I don't know that they offer a Vert specific piece. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

Yes n No.
The vert pieces where t-top ones cut down with a hole drilled/c-sunk to stay in place. So thats what I did with my tripple pod. |

I ditched the christmas trees and used black rivets. Since the 'vert trim piece comes completely out with just easily accessible two philips screws I figured it was easy to permanent mount the cover to the trim piece. |

Nice Idea, but ian, what if you have to service a gauge? Certain brands.... cough:innovate:cough have a history of failing. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

| If you mean the studs on the back of the gauges, you can cut them. Just don't go crazy, in case you want to install them elsewhere. |

Pull two screws out of a-pillar piece, unplug spade terminal'd harness to gauges at the base of the a-pillar. Or do you mean take it out of the pod? I use autometer gauges so I'd just unscrew the two nuts on the back and the ubracket that holds them comes loose and the gauge slides out the front.
How else would you take it out?
Even still, they've been in the car for 5 years now and I haven't even touched the bulbs. Now that I say that tomorrow I'm going to notice one is out. |

I have a dual gauge pod. I thought about a trying a triple pod on the driver side and grafting a single pod to the passenger side to mount tweeters there but the angle was all wrong and I'm horrible with plastic molding. |

Yeah thats how the back of my gauges look. Autometer Cobalt.
Those brass studs that hold the harness in place; the left one hits the inside edge of the pod. so the harness wont slip over the gauges, and i can't tighten it down. The gauges don't even sit all the way down in the pods.
So I can trim those studs a little bit? |

Honestly its been way too long for me to remember. It doesn't sound out of the realm of possibility though. That would've been after I cut the factory trim piece so it was passed the point of no return. Just don't trim it too short and you'll be fine. Thread the nut on it and then cut so when you unscrew the nut it'll somewhat fix the threads. You'll still need to clean them up with a knife or file or something. |
