ok so i got off work and started workin on the camaro again, got it to start, timing was a tad off, but i have a dilemma....so the last motor ran perfect at 6* BTDC...but not so much for this one, i tried adjusting the timing and driving it and adjusting and driving in (in just my driveway) i can tell the minimum air is off too, but i cant find the right place to lock the dizzy down at, anyone know about where my timing should be? its a LO3 motor with LT1 cam, idk if that changes anything... i just cant get it to drive normal

also gotta dump the oil, and replace with new stuff, get that milkshake outta there....

still got a bubble in the coolant somewhere, temp reads 260 but hoses and rad cap are cold

Ethylene glycol will eat your bearings. Do not run the engine without changing the oil.

When you fill the coolant system you need to bleed the air. As I mentioned before, I usually pull the upper heater hose while filling.

Did you reuse the dampener, timing cover, and timing marker that came with the engine?

yes the timing tab, cover and damper are all the ones for that motor

and the car only starts from about 9 btdc and 0* but that could also be an issue with minimum air, but not really cause sometimes the starter wont even move and the car will die if you move the dizzy outta that range

LO3 motors are TBI and timed at 0deg.

If you've got TPI ontop with TPI computer time it to 6deg.

Changing transmissions shouldn't change the timing.

It really sounds like you've got some other gremlins floating around or no offense, really screwing up the tune up! lol

You are indeed unplugging the EST connector to set timing correct?

And you did set minimum air and the TPS adjustment afterward?

Yes I am unplugging th est connector, ill try re doing the min air, also I'm gonna double check my plug wires, maybe one is in the wrong spot, won't hurt to check

Its on the stock tune, I haven't even got to tuning it with custom tunes yet

By tune I mean timing, plugs, wires, firing order, min air, tps adjustment, air filter, fuel filter, vacuum lines. etc. etc. etc.

Not necessarily a custom chip :O)

Also gotta check the cap. If you left it on the distributor when you pulled the trans, the engine could have tipped back and cracked the cap against the firewall.

What you think is a valve clicking might be spark jumping somewhere. Gotta check everything.

its definatly a valve, i put my ear up to the valve cover and i can definatly tell its from there, ill check all spark just in case

also my 9th injector is messed up causing a minor vacuum leak

timing is locked down at 6* BTDC

Minimum Air is set

oil is changed (probably gonna have to do it again)

starts up great, i was actually able to drive it, wet conditions not the best conditions for test drive, i was barly on the gas and i was spinning the wheels.

it drove pretty well, i wish it didnt smoke white, was wet or was dark so i could actually tell what was going on but i think im pretty much there!

it still blows a butt ton of white smoke, i got a LOT of it out through an oil change...is there anything i can do or put it in to make the smoke go away

also tranny needed a bit more fluid

and oil is blowing out the dipstick tube...idk why

and still gotta get air bubble out of coolant

White smoke could just be the coolant you dumped down into the Y-pipe.

ok so its not coming out of the dipstick anymore, i put some seafoam through the intake

coolant is fine after about 1/2 gallon added to radiator

its still smoking tho, im going to take a video and post it up next time im able to work on it in the daytime, but im starting to lean toward head gasket or cracked heads...

is there any way to like know for sure that its the head/ head gasket, cause i dont wanna get new heads or new head gaskets and spend all that money just for it to start smoking again...

Pressurize the cooling system, remove spark plugs, roll engine over and see if water comes out.

You need to let it run a bit get fully heated up and see if there is any coolant consumption.

If you dumped any significant amount of coolant in the exhaust it will take miles to boil it out. I usually take a car for a 10 mile jaunt at 60mph and it will just barely have stopped steaming if theres antifreeze in the exhaust.. Idling won't do it.

But keep a good eye on the coolant level.

how do you pressurize the coolant? just get the car heated up and pull a plug?

and could i take like a torch do the exhaust and boil it out that way....hhehe or a nice cruise would fun hehehe
