Anyone have any experience ordering from autotoys.com ?
I haven't, and probably will not. I was, and still am looking for a good quality set of H4 housings for a headlight upgrade. On their site, I found a nice housing by Hella, adapter socket and bulb included (I don't need the socket as I already have a set of Pilot H4 lights), but the product description stated "Not compatible with Camaro or Firebird."
http://www.autotoys.com/x/product.php?productid=550
Why? My headlights are 4" X 6.5", and I already run a set of H4 lights the same size, so I thought I'd ask the question on the submit question page (it's manned 24hrs). Back and forth through a series of 3 e-mails each, they insisted that my lights are a different size and that this is not 4 X 6.5, here goes with just the message bodies of the e-mails
To my question as to why they aren't compatible after reading the product description:
My reply
| Quote: | | Thanks, that's a really simple answer to something I already knew from the info in your website. What I asked is why are they not compatible. |
autotoys.com
| Quote: | | Because your headlights are not the size listed. |
My next reply
| Quote: | | I have a 4 headlight system, each light measures 4" X 6.5". Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't 165mm convert to approximately 6.5"? Camaros starting in model year 1993 have a smaller sized headlight. If these fit where a 4X6.5 inch sealed beam headlight fits, then they should work for me. |
autotoys.com
| Quote: | | No. It won't fit. We are going to tell you this for the third time. And it is not 4 x 6.5 |
I have since found the same housing (also available in pairs under a different part number) at Summit and posed the same question to them, and referenced my experience with autotoys.com and this was their reply:
| Quote: | These are designed to replace a typical 4656 sealed beam headlight. They are 164mm x 103mm lights which is 6.45" x 4.05". The actual outside dimensions of the light is 167mm wide x 107mm tall. This equates to 6.57" x 4.21". The HLA-003177801 is a pair of these 003177862 lights.
You will need to check with the other company to find out why and what year Camaro/Firebirds they are referring to. Perhaps they are referring to the early 4th gen's that use the 4351/4352 headlights which are smaller 50mm x 135mm?
Thanks,
Mark |
I had the same suspicion about the early 4th gens also since no year was referenced, but the tech on the other end insisted that they won't fit. I'll soon be ordering my housings from Summit. _________________ 92 Camaro

| Wish I knew. When he said "it is not 4 X 6.5," did he mean mine or the one in the store? I know mine are 4" X 6.5" |

I see the problem.
His are 6.5 x 4. Yours are 4 x 6.5. See the difference?

Regular hella housing aren't much better than ebay housings. Look for Hella's E-Code housings. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

How could I have missed that?

I thought I read on one of the sites these are on that they are E code housings. I could be mistaken, but they are about twice the price of my e-Bay equivalent Pilots. |

Summit doesn't carry the ecode. Hella in general is a better product and cost double to begin with.
Lot of Mazda guys use this company:

Apparently I mistook the (ECE) as E-Code. In just the short time I was able to look at your link here at work, I could only see the H1 high beams in E-Code. A search is in order |

I've bought a large number of bulbs and retrofits from rallylights over the years and been always happy with them. That's where I originally bought all my winky stuff. |
