So you all no I got a 86 blazer and the trans went out and now the engine is going. So, now its time for a swap 350 with 350 turbo transmission. Just wanna know if anyone in the crew has done this or knows of someone? I know some of you have blazers.

IIRC Paul used the 305 out of his first camaro to swap into an S-10.

Get the Jagsthatrun book, they have detailed instructions on what you'll need to do for the swap.

What transfer case are you gonna run?

What are you planning on doing to keep the smallblock from raping the little half-ton axles?

A TH350 is a transmission, not a transfer case. Might want to make a note of that for future reference. Wink

Your Blazer is an IFS if I am not mistaken, so you cannot just "find" an axle for it.

My sincere advice is to find a later-model 2.8L, or a Camaro longblock, and a 4x4 60* bell 700R4. You will have invested much less money, for a much more reliable truck.

BTW, I agree about guys on S-series forums. Hell, most guys on truck forums are morons period. Razz

I'm not putting the 4wd in it that's all ready out. They are pretty moronic I asked something about dropping my truck a couple inches and a couple of them said "I cant drop it because you can't drop leaf springs."

Define "out". Presumably the IFS is still in the vehicle, and it will cause you a headache trying to fit the oil pan. They make pans specific to the 4x4 SBC swap, but they are spendy.

If you're going to be throwing that much money into it, you may as well find a 4x4 TH350 or 400 mated to a 203, 205 (preferably) or a 208, and just go for it. Shrug

That said, I still think the best bet is to retain the 60* setup. For the price of a pullout engine/trans and a front driveshaft, you'd be rolling a working 4x4 in time for the weather, and getting decent mileage.

True idk what im do now i was hoping that just doing a engine transfer would save me cash me and Greg were gonna do it. But, the engine is 300 to rebuild the carb its gonna be 75 200$ for the trans and than 100 for the distributor than plus what ever it will cast for everything else. Sad I found a nice s10 for 800 that runs perfect just runs a little rich.
Maby you guys would no whats rong right now with the truck well now wen i start it it jsut dies in less i put my foot in to it than if it stays running ti runs hard like its not getting gas. Than when put in gear it dies or runs hard? any ideas ill just wait on the swap i think

Gotta check for oil pressure on the old 60* motors. Gotta do it accurately too, not just with the idiot light. Watch the vid in my photobucket that I took of the 2.8 we pulled out of my buddies Camaro if you don't believe me. Wink

I forget if '86 was the 2brl or the TBI. If it's a carb there's still a mech pump on the block. If it's TBI they run intank. Regardless, you can check for lack of fuel with starting fluid.

Need to confirm consistent spark on all cylinders, and check timing as well.

Shrug

TBI should have a schrader valve on it if I'm not mistaken. Check for oil and fuel pressure first.

Heck yes. Crapton of transmissions will bolt to a 60* bell:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_GM_bellhousing_patterns#GM_metric_pattern

Problem is there are really only two that bolt to the 60* bell, and the little t-case you have in there.
