|
|
So i woke up this morning and found my tank siphoned...again. there was gas all over the ground (only about 1/16 missing, im guessing they failed miserably at siphoning lol ) i also found my gascap over in the qfc parking lot.....
SO i rigged up a piezo siren (aka pain generator) to a hood pin, ran constant power to an on off switch on my center console, then back to the pain generator, it does its job, when its "armed" the siren will go off once someone opens the door and the pin grounds, shuts off by closing the door, my nice ghetto alarm lol next week when my taxes roll in im going with a 2 way clifford w/ remote start
but for now i need to fix the stupid gas door. its old and flimsy, the spring doesnt have enough tension to push on the pin properly (and im using the softest pin we've got) so if im driving and i hit a bump the door opens juuuust enough to allow the siren to activate, normally it wouldnt be an issue cuz i can kill power with the switch but its a PITA to park, get out make sure the door is shut, go back in, arm the switch, close the door and hope that my door vibration from hitting it doesnt bump the gas door open because that kinda makes the alarm thing useless lol
would ordering a new door help? i was thinking of getting one of the metal ones you bolt to the body but i dont like how they look (not a chrome fan) but once the car gets painted id hit that door too, ideally i want a factory door that can push the pin properly, and line itself up right lol, i found out one of the screws on the plastic surround is stripped
any ideas? _________________ If you expect a kick to the balls and get a slap to the face its still a victory

I'm assuming you mounted the pin switch on the side nearest the hinge. That would be where the door has the most pressure to close it (or open the contacts). Other than that, no other ideas. _________________ 92 Camaro

Correct, its bolted to one of the screws holding the door itself on with some back strap _________________ If you expect a kick to the balls and get a slap to the face its still a victory

This seems like a lot of work to avoid buying a $20 locking gas cap. |

Not a fan of locking gas caps lol and I was thinkin of the mag switch, mounting is the issue plus the door just doesn't sit straight even without the pin
Plus they punctured my mother in laws tank with the locking cap, id rather hear the alarm so I can crack someone across the back with my bat lol _________________ If you expect a kick to the balls and get a slap to the face its still a victory

Only takes a screwdriver to open a locking cap.. wonder why anybody would waste time with them. |

Only takes a screwdriver to open a doorlock too, but you use those don't ya? It's only there so they move on to the next guy's car. |

Because an led isn't ngoing to stop them now that they know they can get into the tank, plus the pain generator is already hooked up _________________ If you expect a kick to the balls and get a slap to the face its still a victory

But seriously.. working next to a gas station, I have removed who knows how many locking caps for people. Not sure why they even have keys they open so easy LOL |

If they're in better shape that'd be awesome but I think its the shroud that's my issue _________________ If you expect a kick to the balls and get a slap to the face its still a victory

That'd be cool if it was as simple nas a door but the surround has a stripped screw which stops the door from tightening down properly, if you have a surround and a door that'd be awesome _________________ If you expect a kick to the balls and get a slap to the face its still a victory

Locking caps keep honest people honest. And jokers from screwing with you LOL.
Glad my Jeep has a funky neck and baffle so you can't syphon! _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

I've never had to deal with people siphoning my tank that's definitely a new one and I'm not in such an honest neighborhood, I can see the voodoo lounge from my window and I'm in just about the most ghetto apartment complex in all of port orchard, drug dealers, tweakers and senile old men who like to shoot people in the back lol _________________ If you expect a kick to the balls and get a slap to the face its still a victory
