Okay my car is finally coming together, ive got the motor all assembled and im working on getting the motor painted but ive got a million side things going on at once so its taking a bit longer than it should, T56 is gettin picked up this weekend hopefully but for now im concentrating on appearance while the rest is held up, my poor camaro has needed to be painted since i bought the thing, and Arizona sun has fried the paint, so i need a good shop that isnt going to cost me alot to paint, im keeping it really simple, factory 89 blue (some tard shot it with a macco electric blue and it looks horrible) ive got a new front cover and 92 high rise spoiler, and a new fender going on because of a traffic mishap....
anyway if you guys could give me some info on shops around here that do a good, cheap paint job (yeah i know the two words arent synonymous) orrrr if somebody in the area has their own setup and would be willing to paint that would be cool too i just dont have the time to shoot it before i head back there but it has to be done, i remember our cars being eaten alive by the moisture when i lived there, the az climate has been slightly forgiving on the car but it wont last long if i dont get it done _________________ If you expect a kick to the balls and get a slap to the face its still a victory

As much as I hate to say it, for the money, you can't beat Maaco. The shop in Bremerton painted my car several years ago and still looks decent today. Of course there are spots that could have been done better and I should have taken it back to have them fix it. But for my daily driver, I really couldn't complain. _________________ 92 Camaro

I think James (turbojimi) had his camaro painted at Maaco and it actually looks pretty good for a driver. _________________

Except it ain't his daily driver! Still looks damn good for what he paid. He took it to the Maaco on Pine St. in Tacoma. I have had good luck with two of my Camaros at that same shop. _________________ '86 Trans Am - 5.0L TPI - LT1 cam - 700R4 - WS6

He is a dizzy and an intake gasket away from that thing being a reliable daily. I think it's all the crap sitting in his driveway and shed that's preventing his Camaro enjoyment. |

Which car did you have painted there Al, the red or the purple one? I'm also looking for a place to get mine done next week. I've seen the red car but have never seen the other one. _________________ Killing mailboxes since 2009 |

| It wasn't the red one, it's needed paint since before I bought it. |

| If you take it to a maaco or something of that nature. Strip all the lights and things you dont want painted. That is usually where the work looks the worst is due to lack of tapping them off properly. That is also usually where the chips and flaws start to happen. |

That is a good point, I'm kinda sketch on the maccos here because they're...terrible lol I've got most of the prep done anyway I'm just gonna pop off the mirrors and lights and tell them to go to town on it, I don't need show quality paint but a solid color car would be nice to own again lol how much did it run you guys? _________________ If you expect a kick to the balls and get a slap to the face its still a victory

At least we were smart and put a set of non-grid tail lights on before paint so they didn't f-up his good lights. _________________ '86 Trans Am - 5.0L TPI - LT1 cam - 700R4 - WS6

hahah yeah id be pissed if someone jacked up my lights, i spent a good deal of time finding my grided lights and then painting them all red, i pulled the casing apart and everything, used some candy red model paint and they turned out great lol
i plan on pulling the tails, front grill, mirrors (so they actually hit the inside of it between the car) and the door stuff, like i said most of my prep is done i just dont have anywhere to shoot it because my parents new place is on a dirt road which is freakin excellent for doing a motor swap by the way....PITA.
Anybody know the differences between their paint jobs? im just gonna skip the ambassador one its not even worth it lol _________________ If you expect a kick to the balls and get a slap to the face its still a victory

Hehe don't worry. You'll be doing them again just from weather. I've done mine 3 times and even tried a good car based clear coat. It still oxidizes. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

| If you had the case dissembled, why not just paint the inside? The heat might still cook the paint, but it shouldn't weather as bad. |

Oh no I didn't paint the outside of the lense lol I painted inside because az heat does a number on spray painted lights, they start pitting out I have the inside all done and resealed I just gotta polish the outside, I also did my third brake light it turned orange over the years so I hit it with that testors paint and it worked, they're bright enough to light up the road behind me at night since the paint is pretty transparent _________________ If you expect a kick to the balls and get a slap to the face its still a victory
