OK, so it appears I have a light out in my dash cluster, the one behind the battery and temperature guages. (It kind of makes a dark triangle there.)
Because a buddy borrowed my Chilton, can someone tell me whether I get to that bulb by pulling the top shelf or by going underneath? Thanks! |

The way to do it, is to pop the headlight switch out, then just pop the trim peice around the gauge cluster out. After you do that, it is just a couple of small screws (I want to say they are 8mm), and the whole gauge cluster pulls out the front.
Then you can access the bulbs at the back. There are 4 of them used to light up the 90-92 clusters. I would replace all 4 of them while you are in there, no use doing it now only to have another one go bad in another month.

Drop the column (two 13mm nuts), pull the cluster cover (eight T-15 screws), remove the gauge cluster (two 10mm speed nuts down with the idiot lights).
*Edit: Ahh... damn 90-92 cars get a different dash. I will defer to John for this one. |

I forgot to add, when you pull the trim piece, you will need to disconnect the defrost switch, and cig lighter. But those are the only two things that will have to be disconnected to get the trim out.
Also, I have to put the steering wheel in the very lowest possible tilt posision to get the gauges out. If you can't get them out like that, you wil lneed to loosen the steering column to get it out, but I have never had to do that.
(PS -- Aaron... her garage info says 91 camaro, so none of those stupid Torx plastic trim peices like your car... ) |

Those may be stupid and ugly, but they make pulling the gauge cluster super easy. You don't have to touch the headlight switch, defrost; any of that crap. |

It really isn't. It takes maybe 10-15 minutes.
If you haven't pulled any of the dash apart before, then a little more explanation might be needed. Once you get in and start taking it apart, it is actualy very easy.
If you have never pulled the headlight knob before (this thread might get NSFW..haha)... You need to take off the lower cover under the steering wheel. There are 4 bolts holding this on, and they *should* be covered with little plastic covers. Use a small screw driver to pop the covers off, then unbolt that lower trim peice.
Now, you can access the headlight knob from the bottom. Rearch up through the dash until you feel the headlight switch. You will feel a button on the body of the switch, hold the button in, and then you can pull the knob out. The whole knob and shaft will come out as long as the button is pushed in.
It sounds a little confusing, but really, just get in there, it is easy. It will all make a whole lot more sense when you are looking at it.
EDIT: There is also another way...if you pop the little trim peice below the headlight switch off, if you have skinny fingers, you can actualy reach the the headlight switch button that way, sometimes. I had to think about it, and that is how I did it last time, but the first time I did the reach up bizness. |

NSFW! Roflmao! Amen! Too funny.
I'm not scared of trying anything once. (I recently replaced my own water pump by myself!)
Thanks for the directions! |
