looking to see if anyone has a soda blaster, to "rent"...or...
that seems like the best choice to strip paint in one's drive way...well best if i can find one..
A longshot i'm sure. but u never know...
i talked with the rental place and they looked at me like i was crazy, cause they never heard or that machine..

What comes to mind for me when mentioning a soda blaster is my older brother. He opened a well shaken 2 litre bottle of rootbeer at a thanksgiving dinner 30 years ago and when it started to erupt he freaked out and shoved into his mouth. 5 seconds later the rootbeer came out his nose at terminal velocity. You could probably hire him to blast paint off your ride but it wouldnt be cheap and would take a truck load of rootbeer bottles.

I borrowed someones blasting device. I can tell you that you have to have ALOT of pressure, and ALOT of volume to make them run.

I had to return it to the owner because our 40gal tank at 110psi was not enough.

As for media, do alot of reading. They have so many different kinds now, and each one is known for doing something. I know the motor shop I used, does nothing but soda blasting.

So what exectly is soda blasting? I have seen sand and walnut blaster but never a soda ( powder) blaster.

Soda blasting is just sand blasting, but you use baking soda for media. It's less harsh on the sheetmetal. I'm not sure if you use the same blaster or not though? I bought a cheapie from sears and just run beach sand through it. Be sure to wear a good respirator though.

Yes, I know what you mean. It seems everything made now is meant to throw away after a few years. I'd gladly pay more for made in America but the problem is that often times the American made stuff is even worse crap than the other stuff.

Sander, Compressor, and paint gun, all bought there, all works perfectly fine, even a few hand tool's..

have only had a couple thing's go wrong but they were expected.

But hey, to each is own, alot of people knock craftsmen, yet i use my grandfather's set clear back from the 70's, they're just fine, and my set is in perfect working order too

I did get a blaster from HF and it works as advertised, however it is for SMALL jobs, it does a GREAT job , but, i used 50 lbs of soda and removed paint from maybe 1/8th of the roof, AND i had soda in ever crack and crease of my garage, house and about 4 lbs in eac h door etc.....
so.................... not very cost effective, it does the job i am looking for but i would need a truck load of soda. @ $1.00 /LBs.....
its like painting the car with an airbrush, u can do it but....

i guess i will go back to aircraft stripper-- Sad

I will need days to clean things out, and yes i tried to seal openings with tape etc.
now i will have to build a paint booth because my garage has so much soda dust i will never get it all out.. to Lowes for 1X2 and 4 mil poly, a big fan and some furnace filters..
FUN FUN FUN i am trying to convenice myself.
