It is time to look into swapping out the ECM in my car to something a little more user freindly. I had Ed Wright from Fast Chip burn the last chip for my last settup. It was OK but I always felt there was more on the table. The current settup is more taxing of the 30 YO computing power than before. I spoke to Ed a couple of weeks ago and he said he could burn something that got me by, but highly recomended an after market ECM, specifically an Accell DFI set up. His comments towards a Holley settup were " If it's red, has a Holley name and has wires coming out of it, it's broken or ready to break" he said that for the money there are better systems on te market.
There is a company that sells convertion kits that use a stock GM LSx ECM to run older settups. Anyone here ever use one of these from the EFI connection?

What other systems on the market are in the price range of the C950 ? The Accel DFI is much more expensive.
The big question is, how advanced do you want to go? If you are looking to stick with batch-fire, and just want easy programing, the C950 does the job. If you are looking to go seq, then you have to look into other options, and figure out how to setup a good VR and cam sensor.
I can give you some feedback on the 034motorsport computer soon, it would work great in a V8 application I think. I am putting in the Audi, but can't comment on how the tuning goes, until I get it going to that point.
I don't know that I would trust everything Ed Wright says as correct, plenty of people run the C950 just fine (Paul and Schultzy for example).
The problem is, there are a TON of aftermarket EFI systems out there, from basic, to crazy advanced systems. It really is a matter of what features you want, and how much you want to spend, and how much re-wiring you are willing to do. |

I think that system would be really cool to see running. Doesn't a crewbie have a homebrew setup that does the same thing right now?
Just remember, it's going to get worse before it gets better whatever path you chose. Meaning you're going to be doing quite a bit of work, but that will enable it to be easier later on. If you went with the LSx style system there are quite a few tuners in the area. _________________

I wasnt intending to take shots at Holley stuff, just relaying what a guy told me. I am not looking forward to buying a computer, rewiring the car and then tuning it. Seems like a waste of about two grand, but I guess thats the price for playing with a car made in the 80's. I want good drivability and great performance though.
EFI connection emailed me back, I am going to check into their system further. I need to get it running better, it lost so much mid range power that it feels like a totaly different car. It shouldnt have lost much if any. |

I wanted that EFI Connection system the first moment I saw it! Coil per plug on TPI just looks sexy! _________________ '86 Trans Am - 5.0L TPI - LT1 cam - 700R4 - WS6

Im the one that has the LSx system on my TPI. Mike at EFI was very helpful in helping me make my own setup even though I bought very little off him. I'm kinda wanting to do the coilpack setup now
Very user friendly when using EFIlive. I kinda wish I would have went with a different brand that would support my GTP and 6.5TD. As EFI said they would "soon" support my GTP, and 3 years later still doesnt. |

This a copy of a email response from EFI connection -
"Hi Dave,
Please see replies in bold."
What will the complete conversion kit cost?
"Please refer to the “Quote your 24x System” link at http://www.eficonnection.com. We recommend the billet timing cover for proper seal if your block is not 96 and newer."
Will it control AC, cruise control, TCC lock up etc?
"The AC in your car will remain functional. Cruise control will remain functional. The LS1 PCM does not control TCC lockup for a 700R4."
Do I have to re-pin the factory ECM plug?
"We would build a new harness for your vehicle and the original ECM harness will go away."
Would I have to rewire to get the factory gauges to work?
"No “rewire”, but you will need a Dakota Digital SGI-8 module for your tachometer. All other gauges are fine."
Can I reuse the Hamburger oil pan?
"We’ve never tried one."
Can I reuse the Fluid Damper harmonic balancer?
"Yes, but you will need to shorten the balancer the thickness of the crank reluctor (about 2.5mm) so that the accessory belt retains proper alignment."
The SLP T-Ram only has about 1.5” of clearance above the valve covers, will the coils clear it?
"Without having a T-Ram manifold to mock up, I’m not sure. You may (or may not) have to fabricate your own coil mounts."
"Thank you,
Mike Noonan

I am running my ecm on the truck/van tune, and have it wired strait to the tach, no inverter.
Not sure if the LS1 tune controls it different. |

The LS1 PCM can be switched to output different tach signals. Stock is 4cl. Can do 4, 6, 8, etc. _________________
