The driver seat in my firebird is completely worn out. somone very big must have owned my car, cuz it feels like your sitting on metal in some parts. The Seat belt guides on both head rests are torn out. I have been looking for some 4th gen seats in the local yards, but have had no luck. the ones ihave found have been way trashed. I remember the local shucks kragen oreilly store had some black fake leather "racing" seats for 150.00 im tempted to try one out to replace my driver seat. anyone have any suggestions on a cheap replacement seat? Also, the passenger seat is in good shape, but the threads for the seat belt guides in the head rest seem to be completely stripped. any ideas on how to reattach them? how do you remove the guides from the seatbelt? _________________ 1991 Firebird L03 T-5 |

For just a little more, you can totally re-cover all 4 seats. It's not as hard as it looks and well worth the expense IMHO. Rebuilding the foam padding isn't difficult either, just use some high density foam and spray adhesive and apply to the cushions.
Check out my re-upholstery job here....

wow great job! the stock seat covers are in my car are in ok shape(no tears), do you think i could remove them, add foam like you did, and reinstall them? id be afraid id tear the seat cover, trying to put it back on over the extra foam. Any tips for re atatching the seat belt guide loop in the headrest? _________________ 1991 Firebird L03 T-5 |

You would need a lot of hog rings and a good set of hog ring pliers. Something to consider if rebuilding the padding, find some canvas strapping or something and build a support between the seat foam and the springs, this will prevent the springs from cutting into the foam padding. Richster might have some insight on this as he had that done to his seats.
Pulling the covers off is quite tedious, you need to cut the rings securing the cover to the frame. Don't try to force the material away, there will be another ring or two where it resists.
Here's an inexpensive set of pliers, better than the ones supplied with my seat covers. If you get them, get more than one package of rings (sold separate) with them. 100 isn't enough.
